September 10, 2011

If you were looking for evidence that the Brooklyn GOP was engaged in a bellicose frenzy in the 49th Assembly District, look no further than the local mailboxes of Republican voters.

In Tuesday’s primary, veteran State Committeewoman Lucretia Regina-Potter (along with her running mate, Michael Bennette) is running to keep her position against two unknown hacks the party has put up in a desperate puppet power play to unsettle the district and “reign” over it once and for all. That seems to be the idea…

More stunning than the lies and hateful slime thrown in a recent frantic mailing is the use of Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn as a major political talking point.

We always knew they did didn’t like the reform movement, but they have truly sunk to a level of insanity not seen thus far.

Here are the images of the recent mailings the establishment sent to Republican voters in the district:

I didn’t realize it, folks, but apparently we here at Atlas are a nasty bunch!

According to this establishment mailing, we are “anti-Catholic,” “anti-veteran,” “bigoted,” “nasty,” “hateful,” “offensive,” etc., etc., etc.

Wow! I never knew…

I found these accusations particularly comical, given that the establishment darlings’ own “hate blog” was so laden with expletives and nastiness that it was content blocked by Google

Certainly, this is a grievous misrepresentation of our blog.

Our writers have never attacked anyone’s children or the elderly. We have never written about the sex lives or bowel movements of people. And just because we’ve pointed out the curious connections between the GOP, Democratic boss Vito Lopez, and a local Catholic social club does not make us anti-Catholic.

The only thing I will confess is that our writers have had an honest discourse about politics and given some nicknames to local GOP leaders. That’s no different than what the Daily News and the Post do on a daily basis. Yet, for some reason, that makes us villains?

Of course not.

It’s funny how no one refers to websites like YouTube and Twitter with all those epithets, even though they feature tough, even excremental language from some of the commentators they permit to post on their rolls. They have open fora of discussion, and that’s sometimes the price you pay for having a truly public discourse. In fact, this blog was the subject of comment wars in the past. The difference between Atlas and the establishment-backed ones is that their writers openly use potty mouth and genuine venom in an attempt to intimidate, while we prefer to argue our points the old-fashioned way and let our readers decide.

Unlike some local GOP hate blogs, we decline to crown those we disagree with as “douche bags” and the like.

But we’re not offended or even surprised by the establishment’s blatant lies. They’ve been engaged in a hate campaign for almost two years now. What struck us was what this mailing represents: their tremendous fear and now public loathing of Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn. They are communicating individually with voters out of fury and dread.

They are turning their hatred for reformers into a primary election issue. With this mailing, it’s perhaps clear that they’ve passed the limits of rage alone and entered the bounds of delusional psychopathy. That can be the only explanation for the tremendous emphasis their mailings now put on this blog, even after a few months in hiatus.

It should be mentioned that the pieces look to be the handiwork of frequent establishment consultant Gerry O’Brien, who was, you may recall, accused of assault and theft of election materials in recent years. You can decide for yourself if the logos and overall look remind you of Chairman Eaton’s beloved political Merlin’s craft…

What a great gang these establishment folks have put together!

As for the “content” (if that word is even appropriate) about the candidates, we’re even more surprised by the extremeness of the misrepresentations and lies. For example, Mrs. Regina-Potter is attacked for being anti-Catholic (seemingly due to her imagined association with us), when indeed she is pro-life and attends mass regularly. And we know that because local Republicans supporting her went out of their way to email us and tell us about it.

We do not deny and have never made apologies for supporting the underdogs being hounded by the establishment, of which she is one. But Mrs. Regina-Potter has not been and is not a writer for this blog. Once again, the party continues its crazed attempt to guess who writes for Atlas, with zero success.

Meanwhile, in a hate piece dedicated entirely to smears and mudslinging, the mailer dedicates curiously little time to the party’s two unknown candidates, who are apparently creatures being thrust into the fray by Eaton to unseat Regina-Potter and Co.

What do we know about these jokers? Matthew Graves is a Board of Elections employee, which is both parties’ usual hack pool and organizational blunt instrument used to take on candidates they do not like. Graves, one local 49er told us, has zero political or community experience whatsoever. And this Linda Visconti person, meanwhile, is so unknown, we could find nothing on her background at all. It’s as though she sprung out of the earth in time to be added to the ballot.

Not exactly the kinds of resumes anyone would want for independent party leaders…

So, once again, we see how far the party establishment is willing to go in this civil war, and how affected they’ve been by the online reform movement in Brooklyn GOP politics.

It’s dirty, pathetic, and shameful. Then again, that describes the establishment perfectly.

Saw this story on Brooklyn Politics:

I’ve met Lucretia a few times around the neighborhood. She’s a very passionate person–there’s a reason they call her a “fighter for the 49th.” But she’s always been nice to me and finds the time to check in with a lot of the seniors in the community who don’t get all the attention she needs. She’s no nonsense, and a lot of people aren’t used to that from political people nowadays. But, as a Republican, I’d rather have a person who’s honest with me about their beliefs and passionate about principles than two people who will just do as they’re told to do by party bosses. That’s why I’m supporting her.

As the Republican District Leader of the 49th Assembly District I am writing about a hateful, malicious, and outright ridiculous mailing that has been sent out by our opponents.
Differently from the male and female candidates running us, who have little or no political background or any previous involvement in our community affairs, my running mate, Michael Bennette and I, have raised our voices in strong support of the interests of and in defense of our community. The negative and derogatory comments made about us prove that our opponents have nothing better to offer!
I will mention one major fact to discredit their attempts and give yet another example of their despicable intent to cause more damage to our fractured and beleaguered Republican Party in Brooklyn: In 2001, my running mate Michael Bennette and I were not involved in any political activities in Brooklyn!
In 2010, our opponents had nothing to do with the election of Congressman Michael Grimm. I was the first Republican District Leader, in all of Brooklyn, to endorse Michael Grimm for Congress, and he won his primary in Brooklyn under my leadership, along with the hard work of the dedicated members of the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization. The candidate running against Michael Grimm was sponsored and supported by our opponents.
Also in 2010, Joe DioGuardi, the United States Senatorial candidate for the state of New York, not only won his primary in Brooklyn under my leadership, but also won the General election in the 49th Assembly District against Kirsten Gillibrand. Once again our opponents sponsored and supported another candidate.
In 2008, once again under my leadership, John McCain, the Republican candidate for President won in the 49th Assembly District. The 49th AD was one of three Districts in Brooklyn to vote Republican, but we were the only winning District that achieved victory with grassroots campaigning and not with the cross-endorsement of the incumbent elected officials. The supposed “Red” districts in Brooklyn, voted “Blue”.
    Notice the trend?
Here is another fact for you:
NO REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES WON IN THE BOROUGH OF BROOKLYN IN 2010. NOT ONE. According to the pundits, 2010 was supposed to be a “Republican “year. Obviously that did not happen in the borough of Brooklyn.

Our opponents have no knowledge or previous experience in our neighborhood. Their opposition to us is based in fictitious and malicious grounds only to further their own personal agendas.

The Brooklyn Republican Party mailer above played fast and loose with facts that should have been known to them and maliciously published outright falsehoods. Several of the items irresponsibly attributed to Lucretia Potter and Mike Bennette were to be the comments of many other people whose identities have been known by the Brooklyn Republican Party establishment for a long time. Also the Republican Party establishment has engaged in open political warfare with every independent Republican that has been active in Brooklyn since 2009.

As one who has regularly communicated with several of the Brooklyn Republican independents, and who has also communicated often with this blog, I am certain that no alliance in any way resembling what was described in the Brooklyn Republican Party mailer exists.

More important than that, most of what the Brooklyn Republican Party mailer stated or implied that Lucretia Potter and Mike Bennette had been party to publishing with this blog, was not contributed to or supported by Potter or Bennette, nor was it even done either by this blog itself or by it’s sponsors. The individual denials have appeared elsewhere on this blog and on other blogs; I will not repeat them here at length.

A slick piece of material like the mailer sent out by the Brooklyn GOP, or as it’s more formally known, Kings County Republican Party, requires personal, financial and material resources to produce, assemble and deliver. Many people are directly responsible, several others are formally responsible.

Their names should be well known by now: Craig Eaton, Chairman of the Kings County Republican Party and Chairman of the Executive Committee; Gladys Pemberton, Republican District leader, Member of the Executive Committee, Vice Chair and Special Advisor to the County Chair; Diane Rudiano, Republican District Leader, Member of the Executive Committee, Secretary to the Kings County Republican Party and “inside-man” at the NYC Board of Elections in Brooklyn [specifically found to have resided outside of Kings County during her tenure, but allowed by the BOE and a court to keep her job and party posts for technical reasons]; Thomas A. McCarthy, Treasurer of the Kings County Republican Party; Russell Gallo, Republican District Leader, “President” of the “Brooklyn Young Republicans”, Member of the Executive Committee, and a heavy contributor to several media outlets of the Kings County Republican Party and reported to be a “heavy hitter” contributor to the 2011 Bob Turner Campaign for Congress by a Kings County Republican blog, “The Jig is Up Atlas” ; Eugene Berardelli, Vice Chairman, Legal Counsel to Chairman Craig Eaton and a heavy contributor to several media outlets of the Kings County Republican Party.

Lucretia will once again beat Eaton and the Bay Ridge Cabal tomorrow when she wins the primary. She beat eaton winning the 49th for Mccain in 2008 while eaton couldn’t win his home AD for him. Lucretia beat eaton and made him look foolish by backing DioGuardi in 2010, while he backed his opponent. Lucretia beat eaton and made him look foolish when she backed Grimm, while Eaton backed Allegretti, a fact clearly not forgotten by the Congressman and key staff. Lucretia, with her contacts with Grimm and others in the 49th through her years of service will once again make eaton look like a fool.

The word on the street is that Craig and co. were totally taken by surpise with the return of Atlas. That explains the delay and their seeming ignorance of this blog’s return on The Jig. The fact is that they’ve never truly managed to find an effective way of countering the free speech of disaffected Republicans and dissidents in their own party. They’re not capable of doing so.

Think about it: no one wants to read movie reviews written by a film’s director–they read the reviews written by legitimate critics. Those tend to be better reads. At the end of the day, the only people pulling for their regime is themselves…

On the eve of one of the biggest congressional elections ever, one where the whole nation is looking closely at the 9th CD, especially the Brooklyn part of it, what is the only thing that the Brooklyn GOP blogs post? An attack on Jonathan Judge.

The three web pages and or blogs operated by the Brooklyn GOP had only one post on September12, 2011, the day before a momentous special election with meaning for the GOP nationally. That post was on what is widely known as THE BROOKLYN GOP HATEBLOG, “The Jig is Up Atlas”. It’s title mentions the name of the Democratic candidate, but it’s there for the all the world to see: “Introducing One Of David Weprin’s Biggest Donors Jonathan Judge.” Make no mistake, this wasn’t aimed at Mr. Weprin; it was a slam at Mr. Judge.

In spite of a major congressional election in Brooklyn and two contested primaries, the Brooklyn GOP had to point out that in 2008 a young man gave a $25.00 donation to Mr. Weprin’s race for New York City Comptroller. Why did the Brooklyn GOP do this? It’s because the Kings County Republican Chairman Craig Eaton is obsessed with Jonathan Judge. Just look above in this thread and you can see where Eaton or his operatives have to mention Jonathan Judge.

If this were only something suffered by Mr. Eaton, we could identify it and perhaps suggest some benign therapy. In the early days of psychoanalysis, Dr. Sigmund Freud named what is now known as obsessive–compulsive or anankastic personality disorder: the “anal retentive character”. He identified the main strands of the personality type as a preoccupation with orderliness, obstinacy, rigidity and stubbornness. To those who know him, that sure does sound like Eaton.

BUT THIS IS MUCH BIGGER THAN EATON, it’s the whole Brooklyn GOP Establishment. This is some form of group psychosis. Because of the attention on the Turner-Weprin race, it’s there for the world to see, the Brooklyn GOP needs to be put on meds.

“…The question begs, This reform minded commentator is also urging the billions of jiggers to keep an eye on two Republican district leaders races in the 45th Assembly and 49th Assembly Districts which stand to be very competitive races….”

  14. Thomas A. McCarthy, now running for the assembly has long been an Eaton-Golden insider, but now he says we really need to make changes permalink
    August 28, 2012 2:39 pm

We have put this introduction of Thomas A. McCarthy, Craig Eaton’s Brooklyn GOP insider candidate for the Assembly in the 46th AD right where it belongs, under the banner: “BREAKING NEWS: BROOKLYN GOP LEADERS USE LIES…IN…HATE MAILER”

Why? Because, not only was Mr. McCarthy around for all that, he was a necessary player for Craig Eaton and all of Eaton’s nefarious media operations, like hate mailers distributed during the 2011 Republican primaries in the 44th and 49th ADs and the Brooklyn GOP hate blogs [since shut down].

We are very interested in a few of the things that Mr. McCarthy had to say ABOUT HIMSELF on his campaign website. They really don’t seem to fit together and that makes them interesting:

“…the reason I am running is that I am passionate about this place we call home…. I really love our neighborhood, Brooklyn as a whole, New York City, the State of New York, and, of course, this great country of ours. I really love the members of my family and my friends and this life we have built together….” and later “…’How many times can a man turn his head and pretend that he just doesn’t see?’ I think that is a great question, because for me, I finished pretending that I just don’t see. Because we really need to make some changes….”

Is he referring to all of the cover-ups of dirty politics by Eaton and Golden while McCarthy stayed mute as Party Treasurer and Member of the Kings County Executive Committee? Does he mean all of the money matters of the Brooklyn Diocese, both with respect to the pedophile coverups and the bigger picture of the long-standing financial decline under Bishop Daily, while he was progressing up to being President of the Cathedral Club?

We kind of doubt it, but let’s wait and see, maybe he wants to boot out Eaton and Golden as much as we do.
