“Grimm News” For Michael: Another Blog Monitoring Him

December 17, 2010

It’s blog mania in Brooklyn, it would seem.

And at the heart of so much blogging this year (and in the years to come) is newly elected Congressman Michael Grimm of the 13th congressional district.

Having been discussed at length online in the past, Mr. Grimm now has something else to think about: a new blog is monitoring him,

The Grimm News” is a relatively new blog in town. They feature the following description on their website:

This blog is published by a group of centrist Brooklynites who will be monitoring votes, press releases, public comments of Congressman Michael Grimm, with an eye towards exposing what we believe will be a pattern of views and agendas that are not in step with Bay Ridge’s historically centrist 13th Congressional District.

Uh oh…

Well, we will certainly monitor this blog for any and all “Grimm News,” but it sounds like they have a healthy dose of skepticism already.

Grimm hater(s) started this blog to attack him during the campaign...

You will recall the last Grimm-centered blog to come out was the so-called Michael Grimm Fact Check, an anti-Grimm blog during the campaign.

In the interest of full disclosure, my colleague Francisco D’Anconia was a vocal supporter of Michael Grimm from the beginning of his race. He expressed his views actively on this blog.

All I can say is I hope this new blog seeks truth and honesty in their posting, and I am encouraged to see so many people taking charge and getting active in political concerns facing our borough.

We will be reaching out to The Grimm News shortly to welcome them to the political discussion here in Brooklyn.

The more publically expressed viewpoints, the better for all. With blogging and the WWW we are better informed and aware than ever before in human history.

It is way too early to be critical of Michael Grimm.
The Grimm News blog may have a predetermined agenda. It may be run by Democrats looking to start organizing for the next congressional election for the 13 C.D. in two years.

Earlier today on the other blog, the hateful one, commentator “Fact Finder said…” that “The numbers don’t lie…”; however “AAA” did in the posting that “Fact Finder said…” was commenting upon, “Anti-Catholic Views, Support For Wikileaks Founder, Help Lead To Low Turnout For Brooklyn Young Republican Holiday Party.”

Unfortunately for the Brooklyn GOP establishment, many more people were at the Brooklyn YR “Sunday Holiday Party” than “The numbers don’t lie”, but hate bloggers do crowd at TJIUA would have the poorly informed believe.

In fact, by 1:30 PM a contingent fresh in from 12:00 mass in their Bay Ridge parish had to have additional tables and chairs set up; and when some of the YR leadership finally got around to eating themselves, a little while later, they had to be accomodated in an adjoining room, because there was no room for them in the Montauk Club’s “side dining room”, which easily had been filled to overflowing once everyone had arrived.

    • “...It’s a sin to tell a lie” especially concerning this very holy Sunday before Christmas permalink
      December 20, 2010 1:20 am

According to somebody called “Catholic League Supporter” commenting in “The Jig is Up Atlas”, the ‘Catholic League’ sent out a press release, opposing the YR Holiday Party, which “Catholic League Supporter” referred to as “this ‘Event’ by the way”. However, since “ The Jig is Up Atlas” published AAA’s “An Open Letter To Catholic League President Bill Donohue, Regarding Anti-Catholic Brooklyn Young Republicans.” on December 16, 2010, there has been no “Press Release” about the Brooklyn Young Republicans Holiday Party listed on the Catholic League’s home page.

Once again, Craig Eaton’s hate bloggers seem to have been caught in a lie. This time the Brooklyn GOP hate blog clearly intended to victimize gullible believers, who might be tricked into believing that the Catholic League might have opposed the YR’s holiday event.

      Shameful, just shameful!

      • Oh, what a tangled web they weave... permalink
        December 20, 2010 11:54 pm

Supposedly several different TJIUA commentators have specifically directly heard from Bill Donahue and the Catholic League. What seems odd is that, through the close of business 12-20-10, nothing about any of this has appeared on the Catholic League’s web-page.

We are checking the following comments out very closely:
“Catholic Republican said… *** These “Rodents” are “Anti-Religious”, and “Anti-Semite’s” period. I just spoke with President Donohue, this evening, he is very aware of this “Anti-Catholic” event, and will be speaking very shortly on this, I for one am looking forward to see what he says about these “Anti-Catholic” rodents.”, 12-17-10; “It’s A Sin To Attack Your Own Priest said… *** According to [] ‘The Other Blog’, [] there has been no “Press Release” about the Brooklyn Young Republicans Holiday Party listed on the Catholic League’s home page. *** Quite the contrary, an email was sent out to several hundred Catholic League donors, and supporters we hear, with President Donohue urging all members not to support or attend this event.” 12-20-10; “Catholic League Supporter Who Received The Email said… *** I am a Catholic League supporter, and I did get the email, and I told all my friends, not to support the “Rodents” or this event.”, 12-20-10.

Let’s not harp on petty inconsistencies, like the earlier reported Catholic League “Press Release” becoming an internal E-mail to supporters (really, not the same thing at all), let’s focus on the real problem — the Brooklyn GOP’s reliance upon Eaton’s hate bloggers to protect the out dated power structure by making contrived appeals to xenophobic impulses among Brooklyn’s shrinking “Old Church” communities.

The TJIUA claims of support from something like the Catholic League or somebody like Bill Donahue are likely to be as phony as the claims of anti-Catholicism that TJIUA earlier had leveled against the Brooklyn Young Republicans. Craig Eaton’s hate bloggers simply have no reputation whatsoever for truth and veracity.

  5. Deeper and Deeper... Craig Eaton and his hate blog “The Jig is Up Atlas” just keep digging... permalink
    December 22, 2010 12:14 am

The saying goes, “You can’t dig your way out of a hole.” (Civil Engineers always point out that you can – but of course they are “Civil Engineers” and are used to working on government projects). Another saying is more instructive, “When you’re already deep in a hole, stop digging.”

Since the Brooklyn GOP hate blog “The Jig is Up Atlas” and it’s principal governing-director and enabler, Republican Chairman Craig Eaton, just don’t dig it on so many things, they just keep digging. The comments to the TJIUA 12-16-10 posting , “An Open Letter To Catholic League President Bill Donohue, Regarding Anti-Catholic Brooklyn Young Republicans.” by “Anti-Catholic Lawyer Who Attacked Own Priest, Now Attacks Catholic League Supporters said…”, 12-21-10; and “An Actual Catholic League Supporter Who Did Receive The Email said…”, 12-21-10 are just the most recent examples.

Just like the seven workmanlike dwarfs singing, we can hear Eaton and his gang working away at their “Catholic League Mine”:
“We dig dig dig dig dig dig dig in our mine the whole day through
To dig dig dig dig dig dig dig is what we really like to do…”

We did a little digging too… Our inquiries to the Catholic League offices on 12-20-10 and 12-21-10 have thus far elicited the response, “…we aren’t aware of any press release or E-mails about any of that… Mr. Donahue will have look into it and get back to you…” We have not gotten copies any anti-YR E-mails from our other sources, either. This all makes us wonder: a) who might have received such E-mails? And b) did any such anti-YR E-mails ever really exist?

So we put it to you, Craig Eaton and “The Jig is Up Atlas”, do you have any E-mails from Bill Donahue or the Catholic League concerning the Young Republicans and/or their December 19th Holiday Party? Please, reproduce them in TJIUA so we can all see for ourselves what the [heck] you’re talking about.

Meanwhile, let’s have a few rousing choruses:

    “Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
    Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho

    Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
It’s home from work we go

    Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho

    Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho

    Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
    Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
    Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
    Heigh-ho — hum…

  6. Bottom line, Eaton's hateblog attempted to politicize religiousity by hollow charges of anti-Catholicism permalink
    December 23, 2010 12:30 am

The 12-16-10 TJIUA posting, “An Open Letter To Catholic
League President Bill Donohue, Regarding Anti-Catholic Brooklyn
Young Republicans.” is a very objectionable bit of character
assassination, posing as mere lunacy. The phony outrage by several
of the phony commentators would be laughable if it weren’t so
obnoxious and actually demonstrative of the noxious bigotry that is
part and parcel of the Republican Chairman, Craig Eaton. In a world
where, sadly, there is still too much anti-Catholic bigotry, Craig
Eaton’s hate blogsters think that they can make their kind of sick
joke out of all of it. We are fed up with that kind of nonsense and
Eaton’s obvious hand in it; soon we will be seeing what we can do
about all of it. Until then, though, we will satisfy ourselves by
humiliating them one post and comment at a time. So the record is
clear, “the Event” that Eaton’s The Jig is Upstarts were trying to
condemn was the Brooklyn Young Republican Holiday Party, which had
been scheduled and was held at The Montauk Club in Brooklyn from
12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 19, 2010. Among other
things one of the constituent elements of that “Holiday”
celebration was the charity and comradeliness, which at this time
of year stands as a symbol and token of the celebration of The
Birth of Jesus, the Christ, in the very same way that such
celebrations are enjoyed by Catholics and other Christians around
the world. (Btw, a great time was had by all who attended “the
Event”, Christian and non-Christian, alike). Everybody should know
what this flap is really all about. It’s clear that Craig Eaton is
still miffed at charges that he and the rest of the his Kings
County Republican Party Executive Committee were demonstrably
anti-semitic for several times scheduling events on Jewish holidays
or on the eves of several Sabbaths. Eaton’s principal hate blogger,
AAA, now seeks to pretend that there is some basis for a moral
outrage over the Brooklyn Young Republicans’ scheduling their event
on the Fourth and Last Sunday of Advent (btw, the actual name of
the supposedly desecrated sacred Sunday was never done by either
AAA or any of TJIIA’s supporting commentators). This is Eaton’s
attempt to establish a moral equivalency between the Republican
Chairman’s repeated obnoxious and insensitive behavior toward
Orthodox Jews and the YR’s scheduling of their holiday party during
part of the Montauk Club’s normal Sunday Brunch hours. The attempt
is not only ridiculous, Eaton’s motivation for the whole of the
TJIUA effort is below contempt. (The proof of Eaton’s recent
motivation was his very recent attempt to browbeat an Orthodox
Jewish Republican for not knowing that Catholics had similar
obligations on Sundays as Jews had on their sundown to sundown
observations of the Sabbath.) Now Craig Eaton’s TJIUA is attempting
to “Shanghai” Bill Donahue and the Catholic League to be part of
its hateful crew. This is apparently as stupid and insensitive as
anything that Craig Eaton and his minions have attempted to date in
their attempts to forge an alliance between the Brooklyn GOP
leadership (sometimes called “the Bay Ridge Cabal”) and the ersatz
version of Catholicism now deeply rooted in Brooklyn. This
“Catholic League” business is as bold and baldfaced as the very lie
that undergirds AAA’s recent posts, “An Open Letter To Catholic
League President Bill Donohue, Regarding Anti-Catholic Brooklyn
Young Republicans.” and “In Anti-Religious Move Brooklyn Young
Republicans Hold Holiday Party On Sunday During Key Church Services
Before Christmas.” Quite simply, there was nothing anti-Catholic or
anti-Christian in what was planned and successfully carried out by
the Brooklyn Young Republicans in their 2010 Holiday Party
    celebrations of this season.

    January 11, 2011 9:07 pm

Once again Michael Grimm has given his critics grist for their mill.

The New York Post’s story “Hillary Sparks Furor…” showed that our local Republican Congressman Michael Grimm isn’t ready for big league pitching. ·

Hillary Clinton’s ill chosen use of the Tuscan, Arizona gunman, Jared Lee Loughner, for a comparison with Middle-Eastern extremists was an opportunity that our local young Republican Congressman Michael Grimm to hit one out of the park. The fact that he wiffed on the pitch showed that he isn’t ready for the kind of pitching he’ll have to face on the national stage.

As inaccurate and inappropriate as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s statement about the Tuscan gunman might have been, Congressman Michael Grimm’s rejoinder was equally lame – and for exactly the same reasons. At the time they made their statements, neither had all of the information on Jared Lee Loughner, his complete background and associations, and whether he and possibly others had a clearly discernable political agenda behind the extremely violent mass killing and attempted assassination of a Member of Congress.

Grimm at least had an excuse – he’s a rookie. Politically, Hillary is a well-seasoned old bird, and as Secretary of State, she needed to be more circumspect.

It’s a tempest in the Staten Island Tea party

    Published: Friday, February 18, 2011, 12:55 AM

    By Tom Wrobleski

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — They said they’d be watching and they weren’t kidding.

After helping elect him last year, a leading voice in the Staten Island Tea Party movement is already saying that Rep. Michael Grimm (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) isn’t keeping the faith on cutting spending.

In a letter sent to Grimm and posted on the borough Tea Party’s website, group organizer Frank Santarpia slams Grimm for supporting a bid to restore more than $750 million in cuts to the GOP budget bill.

But Grimm said if Santarpia had only called him, he could have explained it all.

Grimm and Rep. Peter King (R-L.I.) last week sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) urging that hundreds of millions be restored for things like low-income heating assistance, Amtrak, mass transit security and the COPS law enforcement program.

Santarpia said Grimm was elected to go to Washington to cut spending, saying that to spare certain programs without identifying others that might be cut instead “is to simply place the burden once again on the backs of the taxpayers.”

Santarpia and others in the borough Tea Party were at the forefront of Grimm’s upset House win last November, but pledged that he wouldn’t get a free ride from them on core issues like spending and the deficit.

Santarpia said that the letter doesn’t mean that the Tea Party considers Grimm a dreaded “Republican In Name Only” or RINO.

“It’s just that our role as watchdogs really hasn’t changed,” he said.

Said Santarpia, “If I didn’t make it known when I disagreed with him, who could respect anything I say?”

Grimm said he found it “disingenuous” that Santarpia didn’t call him before posting his missive, given that Santarpia regularly calls and e-mails him about a variety of topics.

“If Frank had some concerns, why didn’t he call me?” said Grimm.

He wondered if the letter might merely be seen as a “stunt” aimed at raising the Tea Party’s profile and making the movement seem more “bi-partisan.”

Grimm also said Santarpia was wrong on the facts, because other cuts were offered for the restorations Grimm and King were seeking, as per House rules.

“I would have been happy to explain that to Frank,” he said.

Former Borough President Guy Molinari, a top Grimm supporter, said he was “sorely disappointed” by the letter.

“I think Frank owed it to all of us to give us a heads-up,” he said. “Sometimes there are explanations for votes.”

    siram February 18, 2011 at 1:38PM

Seems pretty straight forward, Santarpia is finding out just what he got for supporting Grimm, the right to nothing.
    Here is what happened:
Grimm needed votes to get elected, Tea Party wants access and a voice, Guy Molinari says tell them what they want to hear!, Grimm talks the talk, gets the votes and now is unwilling to walk the Tea Party walk.
Santarpia is now discovering exactly what commitment Grimm had to their beliefs, none
Folks this is classic Guy Molinari politics, you gave me your votes, now stop bothering me, I don’t care what you want, but don’t worry we will repeat this next election.
Feel like you got played, you did! Welcome to the club, Staten Island has seen it all before
Maybe next time the Tea Party will not be so gullible

    Coraline February 18, 2011 at 9:04AM

Molinari and Co need to come back down to reality. High off their victory and full of themselves the sooner they better realize that they are not living in the 1980’s and politics in this country will never be like it was in the good ole days where people blindly accepted the drivel put forth.
Key words in this article: “without identifying others that might be cut instead”. It is YOUR job Congressman to explain. Not to wait for people to call you and ask for an explanation. That approach hurt McMahon and will serve you no better Congressman Grimm

President Obama declared “major disaster” status for Staten Island
and other parts of the state, allowing them to receive federal
funding to recover from December’s blizzard. The funding will not
directly benefit homeowners; it will reimburse costs for temporary
and overtime labor as well as the expenses of removing the island’s
23 inches of snow. However petitions for funding for th Bronx,
Queens and Brooklyn were denied. Were they not disasters as well?
Bloomberg said, “By signing a disaster declaration for Staten
Island, President Obama has cleared the way for reimbursement of
expenses from December’s historic blizzard. We are appreciative of
the declaration for Staten Island and the federal reimbursement
will help relieve a burden on our snow budget,” which we’re already
$40 million over. However, many news sources say Brooklyn was hit
the hardest. Rep. Michael Grimm (whose district encompasses Staten
Island and parts of Brooklyn) said, “I encourage New York City to
take full advantage of this program and offer my full assistance in
securing funds as needed. It’s about time Staten Island got the
attention it deserves for disaster relief.”

    DCCC to Robo Against Grimm
    By David Freedlander
    February 23, 2011 | 12:00 p.m

+Enlarge The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is unveiling a new robo-call that will go into homes in Staten Island and the Brooklyn section of Congressman Michael Grimm’s district.

The call knocks Grimm for signing on with the G.O.P.’s budget cuts, which, the Dems say, will make New Yorkers less safe by reducing funding for police officers.

    Says the automated calls:

Everyone knows we need to cut spending and reduce the deficit in Washington. And we can do that by reforming government, cutting wasteful spending, and getting rid of taxpayer subsidies for the Big Oil companies making record profits.

But instead, Representative Michael Grimm voted for a partisan plan to cut funding for local police by 26 percent.

If Michael Grimm has his way, more cops will be out of a job and our streets will be less safe – threatening our communities.

Call Representative Michael Grimm at XXXX and tell him to cut taxpayer subsidies for Big Oil, not the cops that keep our streets safe.

The effort is part of a larger one targeting Republicans for the budget that they released last week. Although the G.O.P. is committed to reducing the federal deficit, Democrats believe that voters will turn on them once they are forced to get specific about cuts.

Grimm edged Democratic Rep. Mike McMahon in the fall in a district that John McCain carried in 2008, and it is unclear how vulnerable he is, especially considering he represents a district that could look very different in 2012, after new lines are drawn this year.
