What Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club?
Yoo Hoo?! Gerry O’Brien!
It’s been a long time since we heard from the so-called “Merlin of Malice,” but a recent blip on the radar just registered with his mysterious Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club, which has had little to no online presence or other kind of presence in Brooklyn.
Indeed, their website still claims their next meeting is on June 7th.
Is that from this year, Gerry, or 2011..?
Anyway, I was surprised to see the club’s website was last updated on May 27th.
This was a club that was supposed to be the “next big thing” for the Brooklyn GOP establishment. Instead, it has not been mentioned once since the last controversy that developed around it and O’Brien.
Last May, three members of the Republican County Committee attempted to attend a meeting of the Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club. Their access was blocked by an armed member of the NYPD. When asked if it was a Republican function, O’Brien allegedly responded that it was and then denied them still. Present at the gathering were also Conservative Party Chieftain Jerry Kassar and The Duke of Bay Ridge Craig Eaton.
As you know, O’Brien is no stranger to controversy.
You will recall he was accused of assaulting Brooklyn Young Republican President Jonathan Judge last year. There were also rumblings he worked for Kevin Peter Carroll, the current Democratic District Leader of the 60th AD.
So what’s going on, Gerry? Losing your edge?
It would seem so…
This does not surprise me so much, given that Mr. O’Brien was the long-term architect of the prior failed Brooklyn GOP website, which was rarely updated. But it is further evidence that the Brooklyn GOP establishment does not bother to reach out in any meaningful way to Republicans in Brooklyn.
The Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club so far seems emblamatic of greater Bay Ridge GOP directives…all of which have done nothing to grow the party.
Teddy must be rolling in his grave!
