Countdown to Bay Ridge Cabal Disclosures on July 15th

July 12, 2010

I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to this Thursday!

That’s when I return to the blog with a piece on the Brooklyn GOP’s spending habits. On July 15th, the public disclosures of funds allocated and spent will come out, and I will start looking through them for answers about how the party is spending its money.

Things I’ll be looking for any of the following:

1. Funding for any political consultants, including Gerry O’Brien.

2. The fiscally responsible/irresponsible spending for the Lincoln Dinner.

3. Funding for endorsed (or, if they’re playing games) or unendorsed candidates.

4. Costs for free parties.

5. More Bay Ridge-centric spending habits.

6. General fiscal stupidity and mismanagement.

So be sure to come back later this week for our coverage, so we can all consider the circumstances together.

Until then…

Hank, that assumes that the Brooklyn GOP will disclose ON TIME, which I suspect they may not. We’ll see.

Good point, John. We’ll see what happens on the 15th.

George Costanza passes by Gerry O’Brien’s Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club just as a meeting is letting out. The result? Hilarity.

  3. A Certain "Financial Disclosures" Even More Embarrassing For Criag Eaton? permalink

Maybe some political financial disclosures show more cracks in the old Bay Ridge Republican Establishment than do those of the routine suspects in the socalled “Bay Ridge Cabal”.

“BONINA” is as solid a Bay Ridge Republican name as can pass over anybody’s Bay Ridge Republican lips. John Anthony Bonina, the patriarch, was a tower of moral, intellectual and financial strength in the Brooklyn Republican Party for several decades. He was a king maker of assemblymembers, state senators and Republican County Chairmen. Daughter, Beth, was a solid and stolid performer and leader both in Brownstone Brooklyn and Bay Ridge for a long succession of Republican candidates and Republican countywide regimes.

Is all of that blowing away like candles in the wind under Republican County Chairman Craig Eaton’s nose?

There are well documented reports of solid support for Democratic Congressman Michael McMahon’s re-election efforts, as well as large donations to the campaigns of big name Democrats nationally by Andrea Bonina and John Anthony Bonina, the younger. Some might argue that such an emerging pattern is just the result of active professionalism on “Court Street”, but shouldn’t Republican County Chairman Craig Eaton be active in that venue, as well?

When an Atlas, like Bonina & Bonina, P.C., shrugs then the Brooklyn Republican Party should shudder, especially the ones who know the real Republican history of Bay Ridge.
