Regina-Potter and Others Flash Reform Credentials from Koch’s NY Uprising Coalition

July 10, 2010

Craig Easton–I mean, Eaton’s favorite female Republican candidate in Brooklyn (and the only one I know of besides Marty Golden-backed Nicole Mallio-who-kis) is touting her reform credentials on her website.

In a recent post, Lucretia Regina-Potter, 49th AD candidate, posted a letter from Ed Koch’s nonpartisan NY Uprising coalition, which claims to advocate “for meaningful government reform across New York State.” In it, Koch refers to her as a “Hero of Reform.”

And Regina-Potter is not alone. But one person who has not been branded a reformer is State Senator Marty Golden.

NY Uprising describes itself thusly:

Our mission is to put an end to corruption in Albany and reinstate the public’s faith in government by offering real, honest and sensible solutions that legislators and candidates can implement, adhere to and be held accountable for executing once elected or re-elected to office. New York Uprising will actively seek support for commitments to reform from all candidates seeking office during the 2010 election cycle.

Their major stated goals are: Non-Partisan, Independent Redistricting, Responsible Budgeting, Ethics Reform.

Mrs. Regina-Potter is not alone amongst the New York politicians receiving this organization’s seal of approval. However, the two others I am thinking of are either not as believable as Regina-Potter (who has staved off assault after assault from Eaton and his political assassins).

Another independent Republican woman the boys club of the Bay Ridge Cabal is going after. The last time a woman had to be this much on defense is when Lucy Lawless donned the leather in ancient times:

That hasn’t stopped Regina-Potter from defending herself against her attackers (including Democratic dinosaur Peter Abbate) or from fundraising.

Also claiming to be a reformer (it’s comical, frankly) is establishment-backed Michael Allegretti (“The Clueless One”) in the 13th Congressional District. Rather than just let the letter from Koch speak for itself, The Clueless One quotes himself and his campaign manager in praising himself for his utter greatness:

I look forward to working with independent organizations such as New York Uprising to help to reform New York State. Former Mayor Ed Koch and Rudy Giuliani are committed to helping to reform our state and I am honored to join them on this mission to reform our broken government,” said Michael Allegretti.

“Residents of the 13th Congressional District need a leader who is committed to reform. Michael Allegretti is the only candidate in this race that is showing he is truly dedicated to these types of reform, and this is evident by his early pledge to support Ed Koch and New York Uprising,” said Ray Riley, Michael Allegretti’s Campaign Manager.

Mike Grimm was also sent a letter from Koch, but I didn’t read about it on his website yet.

And then you have the mysterious Nicole Malliotakis who was also given credentials from the NY Uprising Coalition. I don’t know enough about Malliotakis to make a judgment about her, but any woman who stands in between Marty Golden and Craig Eaton don’t earn a heck of a lot of respect in my book.

For a whole list of candidates credentialed by NY Uprising, click here.

One notable name missing from the list: State Senator Marty Golden. Big surprise.

We’ll see what these candidates do to maintain reform, but I have my doubts about some of them…

One thing we know for sure is that Clorinda was not “forged in the heat of battle.” Someone told me she was suckled in the pits of hell, where all grouchy Eaton-loving District Leaders are spawned.

Oh, and O’Lardo is actually a mutated sperm whale.

Clorinda’s son has a patronage job, which is one of the reasons some believe for her allegiance to Golden, Eaton and the people in the party who can ensure that patronage job remains untouched.

I’d like to know a little bit more about this “NY Uprising” group. Half the politicians on it are not reformers at all. They’re the products of the establishment.

I love how Gene says “there’s a buzz” in the Brooklyn GOP about Bob Turner’s race against Anthony Weiner.

Yeah, largely because they overlooked GOP stooge Joseph Hayon, who is disliked universally (and that is unusual) in the party. Hayon is going around, pretending to be qualified, and then he goes ahead and does nothing to prepare for his “primary” against Turner. Not that I’m complaining. Hayon is an extremist who would like nothing better than to force his personal ideology down our throats. That’s not what government is supposed to do.

The way he “sells” his beliefs is almost as pathetic as the candidate he has become.

If the GOP propagates people like Joseph Hayon in elections, they will see their ranks shrivel and die before any “GOP Revolution” takes hold.

Someone named “Russell” (The question begs, Russell Gallo?) asked Gene whether he thought it was sad that city council members aren’t as popular or as important to voters as sports players.

Uh, who doesn’t believe sports players are more important?

Our government is in shambles, and we have crime after crime alleged against numerous politicians in our state. Don’t these people get it? Government has failed us. We need to fundamentally reconstruct the political system with firewalls and safeguards to prevent corrupt establishment hacks from remaining in power.

The City Council chamber is full of said hacks. There are few to be proud of.

So, until the system changes, I’ll be watching sports games on a regular basis.

Roy, the Jig can hate and hate all they like. You’re still the king (and none of us think you actually smoke MaryJ–there is a difference between that and Hookah, which is available even in Marty Golden’s sanctum of Bay Ridge):

    • July 11, 2010 9:04 pm

Clorinda’s attack on my cultural peace pipe is absurd. She has made accusations that smoking hookah resembled smoking pot. I think we live in a world today that differentiates between cultural, historical traditions and the college stereotype.

I do not smoke marijuana, but I do smoke hookah and I’m proud of it. It contains no nicotine and is flavorful. This Middle Eastern pipe has been ingrained in my culture for centuries and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

The Prepubescent-Sounding One finally made it to Gene’s irrelevant blog radio program, I hear.

His voice turned off listeners I spoke with, who said they expected him to shriek and howl for a lollipop at some point during the blogcast.

He has admitted that he is still a college student in Staten Island (something wrong with our fine Brooklyn schools, Pete?).

He says Brooklyn’s problem is unemployment. OK. But Pete, when have you ever held a real job other than a patronage position with Bloomberg?

    Is that silence I hear?

    What a tragedy in politics.

Peter Cipriano is drowning in Kool-Aid.

He called Lucretia Regina-Potter the “machine candidate.” That was meant to be a joke, right, Pete?

Regina-Potter has been opposed by the Marty Golden machine from the inception of her challenge to Peter Abbate years ago. She has been undermined from the very beginning because Golden and Abbate are known associates in politics. Who are you kidding?

    Everybody knows that!

And you’re having a fundraiser at Marty Golden’s rubber chicken palace, and you think you’re NOT an establishment candidate?

Marty Golden IS the establishment in this party. Wake up, kid! lol

Some of us weren’t born yesterday. But then again, you were born pretty recently weren’t you? 😉

Try running for office after you’ve finished college and once they’ve eased you off the Kool-Aid withdrawal, buddy. Maybe then, you’ll have a shot.

Oh, and I invite you to challenge anything I said right here on this blog. But I think we all know the answer anyway: what I’ve said is 100% accurate.

  9. Clorinda Continues With Her Diatribe permalink
    July 12, 2010 2:46 am

We the reformers of Brooklyn are incensed that the female leader of the 46th Assembly District continues with her political diatribe.

She is engaged in malicious, spiteful and hateful attacks against the 49th Assembly District leaders, who, to my knowledge, never did anything against her personally.

She is passionately obsessed with Roy Michael Antoun, and there are very credible reasons to believe she is at least partially if not largely the brain trust (I used that expression loosely) behind concept of The Jig Is Up Atlas (you guessed right, a blog dedicated to the Brooklyn GOP’s sick obsession with Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn. In fact, they copy every comment on this blog an re-post it on their own with minor alterations, trying desperately to be clever but coming off as cheap amateurs instead.

This one will also be copied, right Clorinda/Gerry/Russell/Jeffrey? 😉

Clorinda is a wicked creature of politics, who does what she does in an attempt to remain as relevant as a failed political hack as she is can possibly be. She is unlikeable in politics, breeds patronage devotees for herself and Craig Eaton, and has, to date, failed at any meaningful task she has done in politics as a District Leader and campaign manager.

Clorinda represents everything wrong with the political establishment. And as she cries when the reigns of her district are handed over to someone nicer, younger and more qualified than she is, her district will sigh in relief that her time in politics has come to an end.

As the commentator above said, I also invite Clorinda to come onto this blog and state for the record her version of these facts. Answer to your constituents, who you take for granted and disrespect by how you use your district leadership.

I too sure can’t wait to see the “Bensonhurst Cabal’s” tomato can to see what little she has on hand, maybe she can go get lotto tickets with some of the loose change.

I too sure can’t wait to see your supposed “Club’s” disclosure report.

That’s right you don’t have a disclosure report.

But you do have very little on hand.

  12. "Independent" and "Commission"-- is Koch on Drugs? permalink
    July 15, 2010 3:27 pm

Not all reform is good. Koch was once a “Reform” Democrat from somewhere in the “Village”– enough said.

An independent commission drawing the lines will mean far fewer Republicans in virtually every signitifcant legisltive body in New York State, with the possible exception of the NYS Assembly where they could pick up some seats including up to two possible fair shot districts in Brooklyn.

Most important the Republicans will never have a shot at control in the State Senate (just ask Marty Golden, who’s State Senate career would be over).

    • Redistricting: Will We Adapt? permalink
      July 15, 2010 4:06 pm

I don’t think I’d cry if Marty Golden’s State Senate career would be over.

But I agree that drawing the lines will mean fewer Republicans because there are fewer Republicans. The question “begs,” will the party adapt to the upcoming redistricting (whether done independently or by the Democrats after the November elections) or will we accept failure and the status quo?
