Why I Truly Believe Michael Allegretti is the New York GOP’s Latest Dede Scozzafava

June 19, 2010

We recently received an email from a friendly reader in Staten Island regarding the 13th congressional race. It prompted me to begin to consider the record of the candidates running, their background and their views.

After much thought, I believe that Michael Allegretti (aka “Mr. Slick”), the candidate wholeheartedly endorsed by the Bay Ridge Cabal, is very likely the New York GOP’s next Dede Scozzafava, a fact that angers and frustrates numerous Republicans who see Mr. Allegretti’s positions on issues such as the environment and abortion as very suspicious.

And whether you are supporting him or not, it is quite clear that his primary opponent, Mike Grimm (who already has the endorsement of the Conservative Party), does not present those same issues.

From what I can discern, Mr. Allegretti is a former environmental lobbyist, which does not raise his profile in my eyes but rather lowers it.

And in case you’ve never seen him, Mr. Allegretti is not a cheerful man. He often comes off as snide and even arrogant, perhaps the product of that liberal Harvard education. That was how I responded to his announcement speech. I find when I see him or hear him speak that I cannot relate to him, which is a problem–for him.

And then, you have those embarrassing moments…

Take this alleged “Tea Party” video where Allegretti literally says “I will stand firmly against no new tax increases…”

Either clueless or just a Freudian slip. I would believe either.

You meant “any new tax increases”?

One website seems convinced that Mr. Allegretti is nothing more than a carpetbagging liberal. They say:

In another blow to conservatives around the nation who want take the House of Representatives back from Nancy Pelosi, the Staten Island GOP organization, still controlled by County Leader John Friscia, the clown left in charge by disgraced former Congressman Fossella, chose to nominate a Republican-in-Name-Only Carpetbagger in heating oil heir Michael Allegretti.

Allegretti is a liberal any way you slice it. He once wrote that Obama’s election was a “positive development” for the nation. He does not believe in the right to life for unborn children. He was a campaign acolyte for the ultra-liberal former RINO Michael Bloomberg. And as being a self-proclaimed believer in global warming, he has been working for years as an insider Washington lobbyist paid to promote the adoption of cap and trade, the insidious energy tax for which Democrat Mike McMahon has already voted. In fact, Allegretti was quoted in the New York Times saying the passage of the Waxman-Markey cap and trade bill “a major step for US domestic climate action.”

I agree that Allegretti’s position on “climate change”/”global warming” (whichever term you prefer) is somewhat nebulous at best.

Take this video, for example, of Mr. Allregetti from an international news show regarding the recent Copenhagen fiasco:

“Everyone’s going to have to give a little…” That was the line that struck me the most.

That won’t make the conservative-leaning Republicans in the district happy.

And just today, Mike Grimm said of his opponent: “I am the only candidate in this race against Cap and Trade,” Mr. Grimm said. “Michael McMahon voted for it and Michael Allegretti has not only praised it, but has taken thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from his fellow environmental lobbyists.”

There’s a major point of difference.

Then, you have Mr. Allegretti’s controversial connections to the Bayside Oil cartel (hence “Mr. Slick”), which is apparently spewing poisons (pounds per year!) into our district as we speak.

I will not enter into an exhaustive discourse on the family controversies that have plagued Mr. Allegretti, but one wonders how a man whose family had ties to the Gambinos is any more or less controversial that a man who has a lovechild situated in the South.

But even besides all that, the fact is Allegretti’s campaign has no genuine message, and I invite any of his supporters to challenge me on that. Granted, his primary opponent, Mr. Grimm, does not have one overall theme or message that I can distinguish either.

But somehow I feel much safer putting my trust in the hands of a former FBI agent and soldier than a Washington lobbyist.

And yet, the establishment GOP forces–both the Staten Island and Brooklyn Republican Party organizations–have supported Mr. Allegretti, who is, in my view, a far more liberal (and wealthier) candidate than his primary opponent.

Dede Scozzafava

Taken together, you can see why Mr. Grimm is truly the Doug Huffman of the this race: he has conservative credentials, he served our country in the military, and he has withstood the ire of the political establishment, which seems to have some greater machinations in play (more on that in a soon to be released post).

Meanwhile, Michael Allegretti has thus far proven that he is far from the more conservative of the two, and worse than that, he is an establishment pawn, which is a very unattractive position to be in this year, given the Tea Party movement.

Mr. Allegretti still has an opportunity to prove me wrong. Thus far, he has not responded to requests for comment from our blog, despite the fact that thousands of readers have come to Atlas to read about the 13th Congressional race in just the past week.

If he’s taking any lessons from the Bay Ridge Cabal, I won’t hold my breath…

I don’t disagree with the formulation of “Allegretti” = “Scozzafava”,
however I believe there is a much more menacing aspect of Michael Allegretti and his candidacy. When one sees him in the “internaional news” video, above, talking about “climate” and “economies” and “governments” listen to all of the other terms and phrases that he uses as well.

“An injection of will from the top….” ((( Was Allegretti talking about President Barack Hussein Obama– or something bigger or higher than that? )))

Michael Allegretti represented and was a spokesman for “The Climate Group”, an NGO, working with the UN and other governments and other NGOs. ((( In international-speak “NGO” refers to “non-governmental organizations”,ie., non-elected and non-national, presumably looking out for the good of everyone on earth)))

Whether he calls himself “Republican” or “Democrat”, “Socialist” or “Capitalist” recognize Michael Allegretti for what he is above all– an “Internationalist” first-last-and- always and a nationalist patriot not at all.

TEAM ALLEGETTI got what they wanted so far, but will TEAM ALLEGRETTI though take the “Bloody BROOKLYN” signatures of the Bay Ridge Cabal.

ALlegretti, a Bay Ridge boy himself, doesn’t want Staten Islanders too excited about his being the Brooklyn GOP selected candidate from the beginning– like Craig Eaton has announced over and over.

There’s a split in the ranks amongst the hate blogs regarding Marty Golden. It would appear the “cracks” are beginning to show in Craig’s online base of 38 readers (I saw that poll too).

Now, the Golden child, Michael Allegretti, is under criticism for his liberalism. Their petitioners are desperately accosting voters for their signatures without success. The boy they put again Lucretia is in over his head, I’ve heard. And thier “radio blog” is getting more and more boring.

    Sounds like they’re falling apart.

It would seem neither Golden nor the man-child Cipriano attach much importance to Mr. B’s foray into radio.

  6. Real Change For Brooklyn Republicans permalink
    June 21, 2010 10:58 pm

Earlier tonight what TJIUA realy meant to say was:

REAL “Regime Change in the Brooklyn” = “DUMP Allegretti” …

That’s because real “Regime Change in Brooklyn” means that we have to dump Michael Allegretti off the ballot once and for all in the September Republican Primary.

Only Mike Grimm gives Republicans in Staten Island and Brooklyn a real shot at beating McMahon in 2010.

The Kings County Republican Committee is paying back for years of charitable donations by the Allegretti family to Eaton’s causes.

This “Blood Debt” is certainly on Craig Eaton’s hands, but making the rest of us sell out to a metro-cosmopolitan snob who wants a regressive carbon tax is just too much.

The writing is on the wall.

A “Brooklyn Republican Revolution” is coming.

Sept 14th we clean up Eaton’s mess and wipe out his debt to the Allegrettis in one shot.

You don’t have to thank us, Craig. We’ll do it cause we love yuh, yuh big lug.

Sept 14th Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst and Bath Beach will tell Allegretti’s candidacy to “Drop Dead” just like he told the Fiorello LaGuardia Club and all independent Republicans in Brooklyn when he really became Craig Eaton’s cute little purse puppy.

“Yip, yap, Yip” — Somebody give that cute little purse puppy a Baby Milk Bone.

On their second try early this morning, TJIUA still flubbed the lines
Remember guys, the key to comedy is HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    Enough of that falderal!

Now that they’ve had a bit of time to think about it, what they really wanted to say was:

REAL “Regime Change in the Brooklyn” = “DUMP Craig Eaton” the guy who makes TJIUA go late into the night and early morning just to keep up with one guy– maybe two, at the most- at ASIB.

That’s because real “Regime Change in Brooklyn” means that we have to get the Eaton monkey off the backs of real Republicans once and for all. But that can’t happen until Marty Golden smartens up and sees all the problem’s Eaton’s caused for him. One good boot in both Eaton’s and Golden’s asses will come in the September 2010 Republican Primary.

Only Mike Allegretti gives Republicans in Staten Island and Brooklyn a real shot at humiliating both Eaton and Golden. That’s right Eaton’s sweet little lap dog a/k/a “Brooklyn’s own handpicked candidate” will also have to be Eaton’s and Golden’s joint whipping boy– DOUBLE OUCHEY for Mikey!

It goes without saying, Allegretti knows his district from The Flat Iron Building to the Chelsea Hotel; oh let’s not forget The McBurney “Y”– don’t yah love that song– so mainstream now– Baah-dummm-bah-dump!

The Allegretis are no slouches with charitable donations, but compared to Geffen’s stuff all over Chelsea– well, if Allegretti could hook him up with Eaton– now that would be a win, win. And even with the upcoming Eaton political disaster, everything would have been worth it.

Everybody knows the writing is on the wall for Kings County Republican Chairman Craig Eaton– he’s made such a hash of things.

The “Blood Guilt” is certainly on his hands. That’s why Golden’s making Eaton the patsy would work for the rest of us, even the cute purse puppy from a tony part of town who wants our GOP to be, well, “an effective force for change”.

Yes, the writing is indeed on the wall.

“You know who” can see it all the way from 80th Street– you see the problem now is really just a stones throw away at Harbor View Terrace.

I’ll handle this since he’s such a close chum. You see he’s sitting there waiting for Golden to call; and, well show some support and that “Yip, Yap, Yipping” from his new purse puppy pal is annoying as hell.

Don’t worry, ggod buddy, Sept 14th we clean up the puppy mess; shortly after that expect a call from Marty for a little talk– “I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart.”

Sept. 14th the real GOP tells Marty upon which side his bread is buttered, or else his candidacy will “Drop Dead” at the hands of (Cue The Village People) yet another Mikey, because for all incumbents Nov 2nd remains up in the air….

    “Yip, yap, yip” —

On Harbor View Terrace a wife shouts, “Give that ugly pathetic little Chihuahua a Baby Milk Bone to shut him up until I can get rid of the both of you.” She’s not upset, she’s accepted everything, she starts humming – “Y – M – C – A”, but doesn’t know why the tune’s in her head.

  8. June 22, 2010 10:26 am

They’re all the same. Allegretti, Grimm, McMahon- they’re all for increasing the size of government in some fashion or another. The only difference is the letter “R” or “D” next to their name.

It’s kind of sad how people are forced to vote on specific issues rather than the larger matter at hand: Big government versus small government.

Remember- give government an inch and it’ll take three miles. Now they’re trying to pass an “Internet killswitch” bill in the Senate. I kind of wish the government had a killswitch button instead.

These three candidates aren’t really for liberty or decreasing the scope of government. In their own ways, they’re each trying to control the flow of cash differently. One through Cap and Trade, another through prolonged war overseas, and another with stimulus money.

And honestly, who cares about their views on abortion or gay marriage? The real issue here is whether they are going to follow Federalist principles and allow the States to determine these issues- not the Federal Government. And even then, it’s not the government’s role to dictate culture. These guys running for Congress are doing just that – running for Congress (employees of the Federal Government; not your State!). What I would hate to see is issues like “Abortion” or “Marriage” or “Cap and Trade” go national instead of local. That kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a Republic.

It’s all based on a flawed scientific and economic model. It is part of an agenda that is adverse to the national interests of the United States of America.
