FOSSELLA WILL NOT RUN

May 26, 2010

The Wall Street Journal and local GOP blogs are reporting that Vito Fossella will not run again in the 13th Congressional District:

WASHINGTON – Fromer Rep. Vito Fossella said Wednesday he will not run to try to recapture the House seat he gave up after a 2008 scandal over a drunk driving arrest and a secret child from an extramarital affair.

“I’m very happy where I am in my life. The decision not to run is based on what’s best for me and the people who matter to me most,” Mr. Fossella said in a phone interview with The Journal.

The 45-year-old Republican from Staten Island had spent weeks deciding whether to try to re-ignite a once-promising political career.

Last week, a group of Staten Island Republicans nominated Mr. Fossella to run for the seat, but national party leaders want him to stay retired. Democrat Michael McMahon was elected in 2008 to represent the district that includes Staten Island and part of Brooklyn, and is running for re-election this year.

Mr. Fossella’s decision comes a day before a larger meeting of the Staten Island to choose a nominee. Two other Republicans, a former FBI agent and a local businessman, are already running.

McMahon can breathe a sigh of relief and relax now that the deal has been sealed. Vito was a great distraction, and gave more face time to the opposition. Grimm will run on the Conservative line and Allegretti will run on the Republican line, with the “Prince of Bay Ridge” running with both. The votes will be split. McMahon is victorious. Marty will still be the only Republican elected official and maintain his numero uno status while covering his sagging white backside within the pretext of propriety. Your game is old now Marty, with blue viens shining through crinkled thin skin.
When the Republicans really lose the Senate majority, the “Prince” will do a Levy and flip. The question is when. Anyone care to join the pool?
