Paladino Uses Daughter As Human Shield in Desperate Attempt to Salvage Campaign
You know when politicians start sending their family members out to defend them, they’re on the verge of collapse. Well, Carl Paladino has done just that with his daughter, defending against the racist, sexist and bestiality-themed emails sent from his email account.
And then there’s this from The Daily News…
Controversy be damned: Defiant Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino told a Staten Island crowd Wednesday night he’s still in it to win it.
“We’re determined and we’re resilient. We don’t turn and we don’t leave,” Paladino told about 35 supporters at the Hilton Garden Inn.
“We stay and we attack,” he insisted.
And with that, Paladino ripped into Albany’s powerbrokers, channeling his Tea Party’s anger at the establishment.
“We have a pathetic governor and a fat-and-happy Legislature controlled by a master manipulator: [Assembly Speaker] Shelly Silver,” he charged.
Paladino had been the one taking fire for forwarding smutty and racist e-mails.
He accused his political enemies, including Attorney General Andrew Cuomo – who is expected to run for governor on the Democratic ticket – and state GOP Chairman Ed Cox of using his latest controversy to try to push him out of the race.
He said his foes don’t want a fight on the issues facing the state. “That’s why they’re trying to get rid of me at this early point,” he told Albany’s Talk AM 1300 earlier.
The Buffalo real estate developer offered up another mea culpa for sending the outrageous e-mails, including one that dubbed an African tribal dance as an inauguration rehearsal for President Obama.
“I apologize to anyone who was offended. That is not Carl Paladino. That is not the man standing in front of you today.”
“I’m human. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone,” he added…
You’ll recall I wrote a piece earlier this week referring to Paladino as “the biggest Tea Party mistake thus far.”
I still stand by that statement.
Carl Paladino cannot undo the embarrassment that he has inflicted on both our party and (probably) the Tea Party movement in this state. He has handed the Left a weapon that they are only too happy to use, and I can’t blame them for that, frankly. The fact of the matter is he was reckless in how he was running his campaign. Regardless of the obvious morality questions, Paladino demonstrated complete foolishness in how he both sent those emails and how he handled the fallout from their discovery.
Rather than doing the smart thing and just genuinely apologizing for what happened, he has gone on the offensive–or, should I say, the “attack.”
Carl Paladino can’t really know what leadership is if he can’t learn to take responsibility for his actions. Using his daughter as a human shield says more about his conduct and decision-making than even those ridiculous emails (Bestiality!!!!) do.
Maybe Mr. Paladino hasn’t realized that yet.
But I have.
