Buffalo Millionaire Paladino to Join Governor’s Race

April 5, 2010

Carl A. Paladino, a real estate developer from Buffalo, will announce later on Monday that he is joining the Republican race for governor.

Mr. Paladino, 63, will make his announcement at the headquarters of his real estate firm in Buffalo. Mr. Paladino’s real estate holdings have helped make him a millionaire.

Mr. Paladino, who was born and raised in Buffalo, will face Rick A. Lazio, a former representative and Wall Street lobbyist; and Steve Levy, the Suffolk County executive, who was a Democrat but switched parties to challenge Mr. Lazio.

On the Democratic side, Gov. David A. Paterson has already announced that he will not run in November. Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo is expected to announce his intention to run soon and is presumed to be the Democratic nominee.
