Golden Sends Desperate, Disingenuous Letter To Constituents

April 2, 2010

We’ve received a copy of a recent letter sent out by State Senator Marty Golden.
We received the following email from an anonymous source:
This letter was was mailed to Marty Golden’s district. He makes several errors in his statements. In 1997 during his run for City Council, Golden never defeated a Democratic incumbent. The seat was VACANT.

In 2002,Vinny Gentile switched to run for the City Council because he would be in the majority in the City Council whereas being the State Senator in the minority at the time place great strains on Gentile’s political agenda; therefore, the Senate seat was also VACANT.

As the only elected Republican official in the State Senate from Brooklyn, Marty Golden should endorse and support other fellow Republican candidates instead of making deals with the Democrats!

The complete State Legislature is viewed as “dysfunctional”, not just a Democratically controlled Senate.

Marty Golden is now in the minority in the Senate with his member item budget cut to 10% of what it once was. He can’t buy love anymore.

Marty Golden should be very concerned about the collection of signatures for his Republican nominating petitions. He should ask his Democratic friends for help since he NEVER HAS AN OPPONENT!

The values the constituency shares in the 22nd Senatorial District are sorely missing from our current State Senator. He has failed us miserably. He is an embarrassment.

We have come to see the full extent of the anger that has been generated by Sen. Golden’s actions in recent months. The first emails we received expressing concern were regarding the ACORN/Atlantic Yards YouTube video featuring the Senator.

Then, we received even more emails regarding his conduct in the 44th City Council District race, as he supported liberal Democrat and Vito Lopez pawn David Greenfield.

Golden was also a target in a YouTube video made by a well-intentioned, frustrated GOPer seeking reform in our party.

Now, in the letter, Golden claims he is expecting a “very tough re-election campaign.”

Is that supposed to be a joke?

Sources have disclosed to us that the Democratic Party is not providing any genuine support to the only visible Democratic candidate in the race against Golden, Mike DiSanto.

Of course, deals have been made. Part of the incentive for Golden supporting David Greenfield in the 44th City Council race was so that Lopez would back off on supporting anyone challenging Golden. Without Democratic money behind him, it would appear DiSanto faces a tough challenge going against Golden’s multimillion dollar arsenal.

This deal was evidenced by the numerous connections we have found between the Senator, Jerry Kassar, and Lopez and have brought to you on this very blog. To list them all would be exhaustive, and I invite you to scroll through our recent posts for further details.

The fact remains that Golden is trying to raise money by painting his situation in a dramatic, drastic way to bang the drums of war and fill his campaign coffers with more funds when no real threat exists (unless Mr. DiSanto is waging a stronger fight than we currently can tell–and we invite him to email us for comment on that issue).

It’s a fairy tale.

Senator, we know the truth. Don’t insult your constituents’ intelligence by resorting to these desperate tactics.

The fact is you will have to answer for your actions and explain to us why we as Republicans should support you when you are doing nothing to grow our party as a whole in Brooklyn. In fact, by making your deals, you have compromised other Republican prospects.

We know the game. It’s all out in the open now.

Now, it’s your turn to be honest.

In 2002, Marty Golden ran against Vincent Gentile, a Democratic member of the NYS Senate in the minority, and Marty Golden won.
Marty Golden never defeated an incumbent member of the NYS Senate majority. In exchange, Vincent Gentile ran for City Council and won by only 17 votes.

Re: Reply to “Just The Facts”

I’m afraid that even a top star on the tour like Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn can make an error on its serve and one of the judges or the referee will have to shout “FAULT”. Then Atlas… just has to be sure that it gets the second serve IN and then can win the point on ground strokes. From what I’ve seen here, it’s not really the point of this “tournament” to make aces off serves; it’s seems more likely to this observer to be a serve and volley type of “game”.

In this instance “Just The Facts” has made a correct call of the service fault by Atlas…. However, the “facts” presented by JTF are just a little bare and hardly tell the real story— “the truth that’s out there”.

      1) Although Councilman [then State Senator] Vincent Gentile did lose to Senator Marty Golden in 2002, it was because Vincent Gentile CHOSE to run in the specific district that had been grossly gerrymandered by the then Republican majority in the State Senate to make a winnable seat for Marty Golden (that’s right, just for him). Although an incumbent state senator, VG never had been elected in any district that included the then-Irish neighborhoods of Marine Park and Gerrittsen Beach. It was also a bit of a surprise when VG did not run for the Gravesend-Staten Island seat that was subsequently won by Diane Sorvino.

      2) When Vinny Gentile won the City Council seat by 17 votes, it was in a special election to fill the vacancy created by Golden going to the state senate. Gentile beat the late Rosemary O’Keefe, who was the only Republican in the race, who was supported by “the establishment” ie., many Bay Ridge community and business groups, the Republican Party, the Conservative Party and Rudy Giuliani. The Democrats on the other hand were not united behind former State Senator Gentile., there were other Democrats in the race (one perhaps a spoiler for O’Keefe’s benefit).

Taking out the personalities, the fractured Democrats cleaned the clocks of the united Republicans and Conservatives. SEVENTEEN votes only separated the top two vote getters. It was so bad that Curtis Sliwa publicly berated everybody connected with the race on the Republican side for badly losing “a can’t lose election”. (Since Councilman Gentile has clearly shown his own personal strength over the years in the council district, there have been many people on both sides of the (phony) Republican-Democrat divide in the 22nd Senate District that have conjectured that if VG schose to run for it, he could probably win the seat from Golden, even the way it’s cut right now, and even with the supposed pro-Republican atmosphere in 2010.

The rest of the Atlas Shrugs blog article, “GOLDEN SENDS DESPERATE, DISINGENUOUS LETTER…” raises very interesting and provocative propositions.

I think it is fair comment and conjecture to say all of this betrays something more ruthless and cynical than either I or “my ‘brother’ Carson” would ever attempt, or any story that Stanley Donen might ever direct.

      Cue Andy Williams….

      “When we played our charade
      We were like children posing
Playing at games, acting out namesGuessing the parts we played

Oh what a hit we made
We came on next to closing
Best on the bill, lovers until
      Love left the masquerade

Fate seemed to pull the strings
I turned and you were gone
      While from the darkened wings
      The music box played on

      Sad little serenade
      Song of my heart’s composing
I hear it still, I always will
      Best on the bill

      Conjecture and comment away, folks.

      Have a wonderful Pascal celebration!

This is what Roy said on his blog:

Considering that the Brooklyn GOP consists of old, right-wing neoconservatives such as District Leader Clorinda Annarummo, it is really difficult to classify many elites in the Brooklyn GOP as “conservative” to begin with. Clorinda, on record, has donated $250 to Rudy Giuliani’s Presidential campaign, the same candidate who vouched for a “National ID Card” and other ways of taking away your civil and constitutional liberties. Again, perhaps not the most conservative thing to do, especially when you’re the District Leader of a political party that’s supposed to limit government federally, not expand it.

All politics is local, and seeing that Brooklyn’s Republican Party hasn’t and still isn’t acting conservative, it’s hard for true conservatives living in Brooklyn to support an establishment that functions similar to its Democratic opponents. Both parties seem to be headed in the same direction; the only difference is the way they’re getting there. This is bad news for Brooklyn GOP Chairman, Craig Eaton, whose neoconservative views and leadership have actually taken the party absolutely nowhere. Brooklyn has not a single Republican seat in City Council and Mr. Eaton’s efforts to stifle true conservatives such as Jonathan Judge in local races only promulgates the wrong message of true conservatism.

If young Brooklynites want to see real change in the coming months, they need to see beyond the standard, George Bush-induced politics that has lagged the Brooklyn GOP for the past decade. Joining other organizations such as the Young Americans for Liberty, and even the Brooklyn Young Republicans Club can introduce a new horizon of conservatism that is deeply rooted in philosophy, principle, and common sense. There’s nothing wrong with a little Ron Paul in our lives, even on a local scale.

I saw this recently on Bay Ridge Interpol, a moderate Democratic blog in Bay Ridge, The Bay Ridge Interpol:

Marty Golden Caught Lying To His Constituents!

Atlas Shrugs In Brooklyn has clued us into something very interesting: a desperate and disingenuous fundraising mailer sent by Marty to his dwindling constituents where Marty flat out LIES about an onslaught of Democratic candidates running against him and the millions of dollars being raised to knock Marty and the Republicans out of Albany in 2010.

As a proud Brooklyn Democrat I wish this were true but in fact it is NOT. Sure, there are a few young upstart candidates hungry to challenge Marty but certainly no one who is currently raising tons of cash or officially announced their candidacy.

The two page letter was crafted to shamelessly try and scare Marty’s supporters into sending him their SSI checks and any earmarked birthday money for their greatgrandchildren in order to protect his seat from an invisible Spartacus and his non-existent hordes.

Yet another pathetic move by our do-nothing State Senator Marty Golden as he watches his ornate sand castle crumble into the sea. The heat is on, Marty. We’re all watching.

Justin Brannan is not running in 2010. I just spoke to someone deep in his camp. Looks like his eyes are set on 2012 provided Marty wins again this year. More when I know more…

In December 2009 Mike Alligretti said that Mike Grim would be out by January (we all assumed he meant 2010). So much for the stuff you hear around, even from candidates. My sources close to Brannan indicate exactly the same thing “Snyder” posted.

However, one wonders why Justin Brannan is going from club to club “exploring” the possibility of running for Golden’s seat in 2010, if he has no interest whatsoever in a 2010 race. The 2012 scenario for Brannan, or anybody else for that matter, just has too many variables.

For example, nobody knows whether in 2012:

    1) The senate district will remain like the one that exists today (both Golden and the Democrats are likely to want to change the current boundaries, Golden to make a Democratic or any other challenger’s possiblity of winning less likely and the Democrats to wipe out the last district in Brooklyn to elect Republican of any kind;

    2) Vinny Gentile, who will be a short-timer in his final term in the City Council, will again run for a spot in the State Senate;

    3) State Senator Martin Golden doesn’t make his deal to switch from a R-C to a D-C (remember Brooklyn Democratic Leader Vito Lopez has said that he wants all of the Brooklyn delegation in the State Senate to be Democrat, I don’t recall his having said that he wants to defeat Marty Golden; or

    4) another Brooklyn-Staten Island senate seat is created with a Republican-favoring voter base (not like Sorvino’s) making the selection of a Democratic candidate from Brooklyn problematic this is not a favored choice for Golden because a Republican insurgency in a new two county district might be a likely result.

Any newcomer like Brannan really needs to establish his claim on the Democratic nomination in 2010, even if he’s really waiting for a run in 2012. Brannan knows all that I have described above, becuase I generally discussed most of these possibilities with him recently.

He also knows that article after article, poll after poll and blog after blog, on this and other political sites, all indicate that an undercurrent of anti-incumbent animus is at work in 2010, both generally and particulary as against Marty Golden.

Most Democratic club endorsements will probably be made in May. Just stay loose on this. Until Brannan pulls out of the race (that he formally has not yet entered), it still looks like he and DiSanto are going forward, at least for a little while longer.

    To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,

He will win again, even though howdy doody judge, fatso potter & Dr. dootlittle ferraro are in the dems pockets. I think Abbate is the puppetmaster to these asshole traitors. Yuh gotta luv dees guys! Don’t they know that Simonized State Senator Golden is the one who’s in the Democrat County Leader’s hip pocket like a tin-wrapped Trojan.

Yuh know, readin’ dis stuff cin make yuh a little bit crazy.

Some people say, “Now that GOP goons Eaton and Golden have served up this kid Cipriani like the spring lamb that he is, the LaGuardians should keep the overly waxed old senator on the sidelines, butterfly young lambykins, roast him on a spit, and serve him with garnish and mint jelly.” Atchually, all they really said was, “Keep Golden out of it.”

So I wuz thinkin’ “That’s no fun at all. Why don’t Lucretia, or Fred, or Arnaldo run against the unbeatable shinier than an old serge suit state senator, who is “Bayridge” [sick; see duh quote in brooklynpolitico up-above]? Why let State Senator Silky Sheen get a free wack at the ‘Fiorello La Guardia Regular Republican Organization in the 49th A.D.’ in 2011? ”

Let’s make chrome dome pay his dues first in 2010. We’ll be sure that they have to compound out the dinks and scratches on his forehead before they can run him through the hot wax and buff him up again.

…should be a good time all ’round. Whatduhyuhtink?

Question of the day: Who is “The Man With The Golden Gun”? Hint, somebody said their mom lost it.

    Ouch, there’s a ding, already.
