Daily Politics: Six of Eight GOP Vice Chairs Make The Case for Levy

April 1, 2010

We found Elizabeth Benjamin’s piece today on The Daily Politics interesting, considering that Steve Levy recently did worse in a poll against assumed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cuomo than Rick Lazio and Carl Paladino:

Six of the eight state GOP regional vice chairs released a letter today formally endorsing Democrat-turned-Republican Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy for governor, citing his record as a tax-cutter and foe of the public employee unions.

In the letter, the chairs say Levy “has the experience and the fortitude to stop New York’s plummet into bankruptcy and end the flight of jobs and people out of New York.”

The letter is signed by: First Vice Chairman Vincent Reda (Rockland), John Jay LaValle (Suffolk), Jay Savino (Bronx), Jay Dutcher (Ontario), Jim Ellis (Franklin), and John DiSpirito (Onondaga).

None of these are any big surprise. They’ve all joined state GOP Chairman Ed Cox in supporting Levy from the get-go. But since Levy and Rick Lazio are engaged in a daily game of endorsement oneupsmanship, this is today’s salvo from the county executive and his camp.

“While Steve is a new member of our party, we welcome all Democrats who want to switch their party affiliations,” the chairs write. “In a state that has two Democrats for every one Republican, we want anyone who shares our concern about the fiscal integrity of our state to have a home in the Republican Party.””As new Republicans like Steve join us, we may not agree on every issue, but we will agree that New York has to stop raising taxes, stop the out-of-control spending, stop the red ink and stop the over-regulation of families and small business. Every family deserves to keep more of what they earn, and decide for themselves how to spend their money – not have Albany dictate to them.”

Later today: Is Senator Golden sending out letters of desperation to potential voters?

Come back to Atlas to find out.

Ugh. First non-Republican Bloomberg, now Levy. This party is just getting out of control.
