Evidence of Forged Petitions Taints Bay Ridge Cabal’s No-Name 44th Candidate

March 12, 2010

Well, well, well.

This goes too far, it would seem.

The Bay Ridge Cabal’s choice to fill the 44th City Council District seat, a man with apparently no name recognition and no connection to the party, is about to get them into some hot water.

Images of their no-name candidate’s petition sheets showed up in our mailbox here at Atlas, with the moniker: “forged petitions.” Whether they were forged or not is a question, but we thought the evidence was so compelling we would let you decide for yourself.

Below are the images of the petition sheets that were emailed to us. These are public documents which can be obtained at the Board of Elections, it would seem. Click on each and you will see exactly what our anonymous emailer is talking about.

Our source tells us that these petitions appear to have been worked on in controlled conditions and have many of the same handwriting styles alternating from line to line.

“It looks like a few people sat in a room and copies addresses and just wrote in names. Many of the loops and letters are the same and look too perfect, as though they were not collected in cold, wet weather.” Whether the candidate had any knowledge of these alleged actions or not, we are unsure. But this cannot reflect well on the members of the Brooklyn GOP, the Chairman included, who endorsed this no-name candidate.

While we here at Atlas are not handwriting experts, this public evidence of these allegations of forgery is compelling. We have attempted to reach this candidate for comment, but were unable to locate a formal website or campaign contact information.

Of course, we welcome any responses to our email address so that we may clear the record.

This news comes as the Brooklyn GOP appears to have torn itself apart. We have heard reports from fellow commentators that Bay Ridge Cabal Chairman Eaton is “crazed” and “furious” over the blogging going on about “his party.”

“He is obsessed with you guys,” one commentator told us.

We have no sympathy. We have offered Mr. Eaton numerous times to atone for his divisive conduct and to mend this party. He has rejected such offers at every turn. He has shown nothing but contempt and fury over our requests to reform the party. He, like many politicians, does not like having his actions scrutinized and criticized. That much is unfortunate–for him. If he had wanted to demonstrate leadership, he could have emailed us, initiated a positive dialogue, and started healing the wounds of the party. Instead, we have failure after failure, and nothing has been accomplished.

So now we learn of this potentially mind-boggling embarrassment for the Bay Ridge GOP: a candidate with no campaign and numerous questions of unethical behavior swarming around him.

I guess Marty Golden will be happy he supported a Democrat in the race if this is what the GOP is allowing these days.

Back with further commentary this weekend!

By law the person signing a petition is only required to sign it, all the other information can be filled in by the petitioner. Many petitioners do so because it is so easy to knock off signatures in court if the personal info is not neat, or if it goes out of the line. To keep it neat it is very common that the petitioner will tell the person signing not to fill in the personal information, and then one person fills in all the info by himself. That’s why it looks like that. To accuse him of cheating is to fall into the trap set by Greenfield and Lopez. We cannot lower ourselves to their level. Republicans should contest elections at the ballot box not in courts.

I’m afraid you’re wrong on this one, Young Republican. I know that signatures on this guys petitions were in fact forged. People told me that their “signatures” showed up on these petitions when they had never actually seen the petition or signed for them. And from what I hear, this isn’t the first time Republicans have forged signatures. But I can promise you for a fact that signatures WERE forged. Ask around and you’ll find out.

Look carefully at those signatures. There is no question that witnesses can fill in everything but the signatures. But why are the signatures so alike? I believe someone said that we should all be held to the same standard.

These signatures look highly suspect to me. They are all Chinese names, but the subscribing witness sounds like she is Spanish or Italian. In the signature portion, the g’s look strikingly similar at the end, the capital T’s look alike, as do a few other letters. There are no crossouts whatsoever, which is very suspect. Not one supposed signer attempted to write in their own name or address? That’s very highly unusual for anyone doing petitioning. Also worth noting is how every signature is always written on top of the line in the box starting from the left. It looks like the type of pen used alternates for every signature, yet they were all collected the same day?

I think I heard their candidate was left on the ballot by only 100 signatures. How many of these forgeries were submitted is an important question to ask. The Board of Elections and the District Attorney should be asked to investigate such blatant fraud from the Bay Ridge Cabal.

If these signatures were not counted as forgeries, yes this guy who no one knows would be off the ballot. He’s an attorney right? Didn’t he know better? He should be investigated for his actions.

Big thing we’re all missing: why did the Greennfield/Lopez campaign let this guy get off scott free but when it came to Judge they’re fighting tooth and nail? That’s because this guy is a puppet put in their to make the GOP look like it’s actually working when it’s really just taking a back seat to Marty Golden (that ass wipe), who endorsed Greenfield. That’s the REAL reason they didn’t endorse Judge. They might hate him, but Marty Golden (that ass wipe) was the guy who made the order. No doubt about that.

I think anyone with half a brain can put the pieces together.

Greenfield/Lopez did contest Ken Rice’s petitions in court, but they weren’t able to throw out enough signatures to get him off the ballot. Again, if you think Greenfield/Lopez were wrong to throw Tischler and Judge off the ballot instead off facing them on election day, then the same standard should apply Ken Rice.

Young Republican, you’re wrong again, I’m afraid. The fact is Landicino, the attorney for Greenfield and Vito Lopez, dropped the case against Rice. From what I’ve heard, they were speaking with each other very chummily in the courtroom before the case was dropped against Rice.

That would comport with the fact that Greenfield and Rice were seen talking very kindly to one another by St. Athanasius Church. Greenfield knows Rice is a pawn and that he is merely being thrust out by the GOP to save face. He has received no GOP support and isn’t even a blip on the radar screen.

I can assure you, you are wrong, my friend, Young Republican. No offense.

My twin brother Craig is very, very mad at me for doing this. He doesn’t want anyone to know how much he loathes you guys. But he’s on the verge of collapse over this blogging stuff. He is sick and tired of being outmaneuvered by children, but heck, these kids are good! I mean, they are really good! Wow.

Poor Craig. I gotta feel sorry for him…

(Of course, this is meant to be comical 😉 )

I’ve collected signatures for quite a while now. Let’s see:

No cross-outs? Every signatures written perfectly on each line? The same Ys and the same loops in each name interchangeably from line to line?

Nope. That stinks to high heaven. These are bad sigs without a doubt.

(Shout Out David Greenberg–I mean “Field”)

Since this petition for KENNETH RICE, together with and including the pages and signatures gathered and witnessed by KRYSTINA LORENZO, have been filed with a proper governmental agency and not successfully challenged, aren’t they presumptively valid?

This is the campaign website for the NYPD attorney named Ken Rice, who is running for a politcal, elected City Council position, in clear violation of the City’s Conflict of Interest laws and regulations, and the Hatch Act, too.

The concept of democracy has since been hijacked by all this not-so-clandestine collusion. The GOP is due for a heaping tablespoon of their own medicine and I believe it will be coming sooner than later. I fear this blog is doing more harm than good for the grand ol’ party.

  9. March 15, 2010 10:41 am

P.S. Those signatures above are completely bogus. I collected signatures for the great Joe Lazar in that same district and had many Chinese signatures and none of them looked anything like that. Those signatures are obviously that of an inexperienced round-eye copying and signing Chinese names off an E.D. list in their kitchen. How embarrassing!

Notice how there have been no denials, no admissions–not a word from Eaton, Rice or anyone else? Just dead silence from the GOP. It’s because they could care less about this Rice guy. Clearly this was inappropriate and likely illegal, so they’ve hung him out to dry. Why am I not surprised???

    Kiss kiss, morons. 😉
