The Brooklyn GOP Finances: Part 1 – Without Bloomberg, Accounts Scarily Empty

February 4, 2010

What does it say when you’re one check away from disaster?

Most Americans feel that kind of insecurity is something too dificult to handle. The thought of living paycheck to paycheck is scary.

For the Brooklyn GOP, that feeling is a reality.

Looking at the money the local party raised, one has to marvel at how little control the party leadership–Chairman Craig “The Duke of Bay Ridge” Eaton–has over its own destiny. Based on its financial disclosures, it’s no wonder the party sold itself to Bloomberg last year with such gusto. Bloomberg was the party’s only meal ticket.

It is clear that without the $75,000 given by the Mayor on top of the original $50,000 the mayor gave the party last year in his quid pro quo for a Wilson Pakula, this party would be bankrupt this year.

How could Eaton let it get this bad?

The fact is, if you need any evidence of the severe mismanagement of the party, look no further than the Chairman’s inability to secure donations from anyone but the Mayor. I will only say the number is an embarrassment, especially for a party that had much to build on toward the end of the year.

By late summer, the campaigns for the numerous Republican candidates running were in full swing. The public was getting intense nausea from the happenings down in Washington and from the Obama Administration. There was a sense that Republicans were beginning to roar back at what had been a very bad 2008 election year.

But in spite of that reality, the party took little to no initiative to secure donations from anyone once they secured Bloomberg’s donation for the Wilson Pakula. And that money couldn’t have come at a more advantageous time. As I previously told you, one of the party’s bank accounts was actually carrying a negative balance at one point. But rather than be proactive and face these challenges head-on, the party leadership remained complacent and failed to do more than await the guaranteed check-to-cash from their beloved Bloomberg.

It should be noted that that act in itself was one of the primary events that began to split this party, and it was one of the primary motivations for some of our writers to form this blog in the first place.

But Eaton apparently did not care. And once the check was promised, it appears fundraising terminated. As I continue to pour over the numbers, it appears clear that all the party has is the remnants of Bloomberg cash. Before the 75k check, the party had 44k in the bank:

Opening Balance $44,490.18
Contributions $75,000.00

But whatever the party gained from Bloomberg, it spent $53,949.99, cutting their amount in about half.

Meanwhile, what has the party done for its candidates?

What has the party done to increase the base?

Had Bloomberg not had an election, the true weaknesses of the party would have been fully exposed. So they got away last year with keeping the ship afloat. But what about 2010? This is a very important year for the party. Does the party have any plans to fundraise?

Based on what the 2009 elections brought, it would seem the party either didn’t have the stomach to donate to its candidates or raise money independently for its candidates.

Is the party losing potential donors because of the the schism that resulted from the recent county convention?

I wouldn’t be surprised…

Meanwhile, who is the greatest loser in all of this? The party itself.

Because the loss of control over the party’s freedom to choose its own destiny is the greatest loss of all.

I like your technique as to CE, especially the E&T bit.

However, stop encouraging SR with “smiley faces”— George Smiley doesn’t like such whimsey [ref. LaCarre].

Aww, you’re threatening people. How typical of you guys to act like big, tough guys when all you are just lazy scum. I wish you guys were real men. I liked you better when you were open and used your names.

Now, everyone knows its Russell Gallo running the Hate “Jig” Blog. This once honorable Army boy is now screwing up his reputation by blogging like a coward. (If I’m wrong, I’m sure you’ll respond…) And Jeff Kraus? Well…the only reputation he had was that he liked to teach about the Jets in class to his students, so who cares?

Doesn’t it get sad knowing you’re all alone, you little punk thugs? Doesn’t it? Or does Craig come with a hot water bottle at night and tuck you guys in after a night of hate-blogging?

By the way, how DO his boots taste? You lick them regularly, right?

And how often do you guys get off to pictures of Marty Golden? Do you have impure thoughts?

Do you fake out like your Bay Ridge priest Gelfant does on this blog? How many venial sins do you have to perform before Peter shuts the gates on you guys?

What a sad, sorry lot you guys have turned out to be. If you weren’t so pathetic, I’d feel sorry for you.

(Btw “Atlas Judge”–no relation to the Judge running for City Council–just liked the name you guys gave this blog he he he)

More threats from Russell Gallo. When is this psychopath going to stop-when he shoots somebody in a drunken rage? This guy needs therapy quick. He has some troubling issues on how to deal with people. It is unbelievable that this nut is out walking the streets. He needs to be monitored and he needs to lose the guns quick. He has bullets with peoples names on them. Very scary.

The Jiggles crew is getting pathetic. Only Gallo, Kraus, and Eaton comment. I want to know if those failed political minds are done guessing who’s behind Atlas and will actually RESPOND to the criticisms against them.

    No luck.

The miscreants from the fallen Ridge are very nervous. Threats, lies, insults, and slander have become common place for these self important thugs.
Shallo Gallo needs his guns to compensate for what he lacks in real courage.
Kraus is a washed up old man whose life revolves a team of green losers.
Eaton has a bigger ego than his wallet can afford.
    Golden is the ultimate carpetbagger.

Poor Jimmy and Jessy, all they wanted was to expose the truth about these exploiters and now they are on the hit list. Keep up the great work Atlas. The Shruggers know what is real.

Craig Eaton’s dedicated love song to Marty Golden:

    Don’t wish it away
Don’t look at it like it’s forever
Between you and me I could honestly say
That things can only get better.

    And while I’m away
    Dust out the demons inside
And it won’t be long before you and me run
To the place in our hearts where we hide.

And I guess that’s why they call it the blues
Time on my hands could be time spent with you
Laughing like children, living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that’s why they call it the blues.

    Just stare into space
Picture my face in your hands
Live for each second without hesitation
And never forget I’m your man.

    Wait on me girl
Cry in the night if it helps
But more than ever I simply love you
More than I love life itself….

Kruger has been a part of the Bay Ridge Cabal for years. Marty pushed for Kruger’s chairmanship of the Finance Committee eons ago when the Republicans controlled the Senate. Kruger has been a fixture at KCRP events since the beginning of the decade. The deals between these two have a steady history. Kruger as well as Marty needs to be primaried and challenged. ALL the garbage in Albany needs to be thrown OUT!
