DEVELOPING STORY: In Stealthy Last Minute Release, The Bay Ridge Cabal Will Host Republican Candidates for Governor

January 13, 2010

In a stealth move that no one saw coming, the Brooklyn GOP will be hosting the two major candidates for the Republican nomination for New York State governor. Former Congressman Rick Lazio and County Executive Chris Collins will speak at the Bay Ridge Manor of State Senator Marty Golden (aka The Golden Prince)

We here at Atlas were surprised to learn about this fact, since the announcement that the two candidates would appear was released the DAY BEFORE Lazio and Collins are expected to appear. The release was sent by email from the Brooklyn Young Republican Organization, which was forwarded to us not long ago.

In what seems to be either a late, haphazard notice from the party or a a sudden, last-minute decision to host the candidates, the Bay Ridge GOP leadership has opened the Bay Ridge Manor to the public.

Here is the release sent out by the Brooklyn Young Republicans:

The two Republicans seeking the GOP nomination for Governor will appear before the Executive Committee of the Brooklyn Republican Party, and the public is invited to attend.

Former Congressman Rick Lazio and County Executive Chris Collins will speak at 6:30 and 7:00 on Wednesday, January 13 at the Bay Ridge Manor, located at 476 76th Street, off 5th Avenue, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

County Chairman Craig Eaton said, “We’re delighted to have two such fine candidates interested in our Party’s nomination. I invite all interested voters to join us and hear their plans for New York State’s future.

This is not the first time the Bay Ridge Cabal has been involved with Collins. You may recall I posted this earlier:

Many of you know that former US Senate candidate Rick Lazio has been a declared candidate for governor for a while now. Nevertheless, the Brooklyn GOP, “led” by Chairman _______ “The Duke” _______ had endorsed former Mayor Giuliani until it was fairly clear Giuliani would not be running.

Now, the question of who the Brooklyn GOP will endorse for governor is open and unanswered.

But now, new news comes…

Chris Collins, the Erie County Executive and would-be GOP candidate for governor, garnered some undesirable attention when he compared Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to Hitler and called him an Antichrist at an event.

And from what we can tell here at Atlas, this is the first time the Brooklyn GOP has publicly involved itself with Rick Lazio, who has had some trouble recently getting his race going strong.

Regarding Collins, at the end of last month, The Daily Politics blog posted a story about the crew of GOP chairmen endorsing Chris Collins and urging him to run for governor.

The event is apparently open to the public, and we hope to report on this event afterward with opinion and analysis.

If you are planning on going, please feel free to share your experiences with us! Email us at

This is another fine example of how unorganized and inept the Bay Ridge GOP really is.
A last minute open-to-the-public event announced less than 24 hours before it is supposed to take place speaks volumes about how maladroitly the leadership of the Brooklyn Republican Party understands the political process. It is not surprising considering who is the point-man of this Republican fire drill.

Is Senator Marty Golden’s family businesss “renting” out the Bay Ridge Manor to the Craig Eaton-Bay Ridge Republican Party or is the space available free, “gratis,” as a courtesy?

Craig, why not try having a KCRP-sponsored event like this in a different part of Brooklyn, like Bed Stuy or Williamsburgh or Midwood or Borough Park? Why 9 out of 10 times must these things be in Bay Ridge?

    Get some perspective?

Funny that all of you Atlas Shruggers are never happy.

      When nothing happens, you complain.

Yet when things are happening, meetings, rallies, events – they are never good enough for you and you always find fault.

For years there were no meetings, no emails, no rallies, nothing happeng in Brooklyn Republican Politics. Now nothing is good enough for those who choose not to even help.

I am just a neutral observer who sits back and watches all of you Shruggers blatantly attack, yet fail to do anything to help.

If you have such great wisdom, ideas and knowledge, why not volunteer and be a part of the growth.

As for you Maya, you need to get a life. If there are no meetings you complain. If there are meetings, you complain abt where they are. Why no find locations in Bed Stuy, Williamsburg, Midwood or Borough Park and propose them to the County? What you will find is that there are not many places available that will provide space for free for a large group of people for 4 hours.

But I challenge you, find the places and I will personally pass them on to the County GOP.

As for Judge and the YR’s, they state they have nothing to do with this site, yet the Shruggers constantly refer to the YR’s, get ideas and quotes from them, get flyers and press releases from them? What does that mean?

I guess there are a lot of disingenuous people blogging here.

Well, these groups have huge email lists to email out. Maybe Atlas has a YR connection, but it’s just as likely that a YR that is sympathetic to Atlas’ cause forwarded the email to them.

Lots of people are upset with the party. I’ve emailed Atlas a few times.

Hi Craig. When are you going to get your act together? The YRs are much better organized than your pathetic operation. They plan and organize their events. It is doubtful that the BRM is donating the venue for free. Marty will get his cleaned cash one way or another. Did you even bother to look for and locate another venue? Highly doubtful. Maya keep up your good work. We need the voice of reason to wade through all the garbage the County tries to pass off as a political party. Only the leaders of the Bay Ridge GOP are disingenuous and it shows.

Russell Gallo is a war veteran and, seemingly more important for the purposes of most of ASIB’s bloggers, a veteran Brooklyn Republican leader and operative.

Sharpshooter is generally right-on about RG— but let’s not be distracted.

What about the incident with the young female YR? What were the facts? What were the circumstances? If it develops as suggested in the initial short blog report, it is quite incendiary.

Regardless how this all plays out, the KCRP Organization has had Russell Gallo exposed “on the point” for far too long. He’s developed the “thousand yard stare” — and it should now be clear that it’s gotten bad for everybody involved (not exclusively a particular young female YR).

What has happened simply shows that Christina Bennett (the 18 year old YR rep) is a lady. When asked to leave the meeting, she did. The later attacks on her by Craig Eaton simply show that he is no gentleman. Craig, are you so afraid of an 18 year old girl that you have to make up conversations and lie about her? Have you no shame? It is a rhetorical question, as it is evident that he does not.

Then Craig whines at the meeting that he gets no help. The problem is if you try to help but do not march in absolute goose step with him and his lackeys, he attacks you and drives you away.

It is time that he and his friends are removed from leadership. Call it self defense. After all how long will it be before you are on his hit list? How long before he comes to you at an executive board meeting and asks you if you will Twitter, or tell someone about things spoken of at the meeting. Maybe you have as a friend someone he does not like. Unless you march in goose step, it is only a mater of time. Save yourselves, and maybe the Kings County GOP in the process.

Have to say, I’d gotten word from both County and YR’s email yesterday — and was able to drive out to Bay Ridge for the event. As a concerned citizen, active voter and concerned resident of NY State — I greatly enjoyed the chance to hear from 2 prospective leaders that are taking the courageous and hard-to-travel road, of criss-crossing NY State to deliver a message of potential improvement. It’s NOT everyday, we have the chance to raise a hand, simply, and have a Rick Lazio or Collins answer a Brooklyn-specific question. They did come here, to speak with us — not matter how we learned of it, if you can make it and you’re concerned, the answer was to go and join in.

It was good to hear first-hand what they believe, how they’re presenting themselves (from this early a date) and hear their off-the-cuff impressions of much that surrounds the topics of the ‘state of New York’. It didn’t cost me anything, and in addition to the gubernatorial GOP candidates I was able to meet & reconnect after the holidays, with a good GOP group of former and current local Brooklyn candidates, running for Congress, State Legislative offices in 2010. To meet with our Party leaders, and to enjoy conversations with Brooklyn reporters in attendance. (Any of you may have done the same.)

As a Republican residing in Brooklyn that’s interacted with 1,000s of voters and concerned residents within our communities.. I’m here to tell you, that much more happens off-line (in reality, outside, where people meet and face to face), then what passes for news or off-the-cuff commentary. Craig Eaton brought these 2 GOP candidates together, and we should be glad it happened at all (frankly, I wasn’t aware that Collins was running – and I’m one to believe that competition builds a better GOP representative, ultimately). Sen. Golden is Brooklyn’s Republican State Senator, and a senior State official, why nitpick that this event is under his aegis more or less? In years passed, these events in Brooklyn Heights etc. would have been met with similar reaction, as far as geography — but why quibble over which space was used? it happened, and each of you were invited for the public interaction with Lazio and Collins.

I’ve said before, why are people writing under pseudonyms — and belittling the very name of Republican reform. Credibility is lowered with each small-minded post. It comes off as far more pedantic that I believe many contributors realize — like the backwards postings on say a NY Post or Daily News comment section. Readers here are supposed to be insiders, to a greater degree — and more or less, be for progress and achievement. Man, I have to say.. that I’d love to pop onto this website one day and be duly impressed with something — either from a ideological perspective, community activism, compelling nature for moving helping hands to anyone’s local campaigns, etc. etc. and say to myself that there’ something STRONG happening with today’s ‘younger’ Republicans.

There’s at least 5-6 things happening today that can ripped on the State or Federal or local levels, politically — and I see none of that represented.

Listen, there’s nothing wrong with ANY level of participation, blogging, postings, and the web is proven to be phenomenal at times for its reach — but, we all know that ‘whining’ here, isn’t helping anyone that I can see, hasn’t as far as I know. In-fighting can bring some points to light, and if there’s something cathartic is saying/posting something (right or wrong) then fine — but it’s been done, over and over now. At what point will you strengthen what you have now?…

    Once again, step up.

If there are candidates you believe in.. then walk with them.

    Old school.

    Contribute, in-person.

Either follow them, or exhibit leadership in yourself/your very being, by doing what you’d never done before, in support of what they may accomplish. Go and be there. Let others see you concerned.

Listen, and let your voice be heard in explanation to the many, the numbers that are against us.. and help level the odds for rational, reasonable government that is results-driven. Apply the strengths of the Republican party. Hands on.

Use the web to find and support your GOP candidates.

    Then, do something.

I want to read what you’ve DONE.

And Craig Eaton brought 2 Republican candidates for the NY State upcoming election season right here, to Brooklyn so far in 2010 — and last year, like it or not, set the stage for a NYC Mayor to be elected on the Republican line. Two candidates received the endorsement of the NYC Mayor, and people can read names that have and can garner attention vs. the One Party System that’s showing serious weakness (again), as it had in the 80s/90s.

Will you sit back and watch, and hope someone does something that you like.. so you can post about it?… or will it be you, leading your generation into a greater realization of how anything gets done, in the first place.

Russell Gallo has denigrated his service to his country by engaging in the petty thuggery that has transpired on the part of Eaton and Company (which includes two former Capano “aides” who failed miserably in getting their candidate elected). Gallo has now resorted to using fascist tactics to “escort” a youngster from a meeting she was probably entitled to sit in on in lieu of the YR President’s absence.

Now, it would be one thing if he just did this thuggery in the confines of the meeting itself. But no. He then goes online and–like a “real man”–whines about it to the pathetic Special Atlas Task force (of which he is one of two) to the meager few who pay attention to such stupidity.

Why not just email Jerry Springer?

Gallo continues to prove just how much of an ass he is (and confirm my theory that he is in league with the Anti-Atlas crew). I usually have respect for veterans, but this man doesn’t even have enough SELF-RESPECT to be act like s decent human being and at least pretend to be a District Leader and not a child.

I guess that’s too much to ask.

They are currently playing a reactive game because they have no way to respond to the criticisms of Atlas. First, they started by ignoring Atlas last year. Then, they starting commenting occasionally. Now, they are so driven and obsessed they have to comment frequently. They monitor this blog and the comments hourly, as does Craig Eaton, which tells you a lot…

The blog has been fatal to their ability to lead, and it’s all their fault, because they’re their own worst enemies.

These people need to grow spines, get lives, and start making peace with the base of the party. Otherwise, the Brooklyn GOP will just shrivel up and die (if it hasn’t already).

This web site is awful – Republicans are supposed to be unified toward a greater good, not in-fighting and accusing certain GOP members of abusing little girls (read: a 19-year old woman who would not agree to refrain from “Twittering” during a closed meeting). Furthermore, I don’t see how a person’s last name (something they have no control of) becomes a point of interest on this site (for those of you who don’t speak fluent Italian, Gallo means “rooster”).
