The Daily Politics: Molinari Will Not Seek Senate Seat

January 11, 2010

This was recently reported on The Daily News’ political blog by Liz Benjamin:

Susan Molinari’s challenge to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is over before it even began.

Three days after the former Republican congresswoman was floated as a potential opponent to the Democratic junior senator by her father, former Staten Island BP Guy Molinari and ex-Mayor Rudy Giuliani, she has decided to take a pass on the race.

Here’s her statement:

“Over the past week, I’ve taken the counsel of friends, family and New York political and civic leaders about seeking election to the United States Senate.”
“These are challenging times for our country and returning to public service to address issues like the economy and terrorism would be a great honor.”

“After much reflection, it is clear that a statewide race this year is not a practical option for me and our family. Bill and I have young daughters who are our first priority and, coupled with professional and civic responsibilities, preclude this campaign.”

“I deeply appreciate the many offers of support from across New York and look forward to continuing to work with these friends and leaders to address our State and Nation’s challenges.”

Perhaps the GOP would have better luck with former Rep. Harold Ford Jr.? All it would take is a Wilson Paulka…and, of course, his willingness to run on Row B.
