The Daily Politics: 15 GOP Chairs Seek To Draft Collins

December 28, 2009

Just in case you didn’t see it, earlier this afternoon, The Daily Politics posted the following story about crew of GOP chairmen endorsing Chris Collins (absent from the list, you’ll notice, is Kings County):

The battle for the 2010 GOP gubernatorial nomination is on.

Fifteen Republican county chairs have signed a letter urging Erie County Executive Chris Collins to run for governor next year, citing his success at holding the fiscal line in Western New York and exhibiting “bold and committed leadership.”

The chairs hail from – Albany, Erie, the Bronx, Allegany, Franklin, Livingston, Orleans, Rensselaer, Cattaraugus, Jefferson, Seneca, Onondaga, Genesee, Delaware and Cayuga.

“In the last two years, you have proven that running government in business principles works,” the chairmen wrote.”…It is now time to put taxpayers first in New York State like you have in Erie County. By doing so, you are also further advancing the needs of Erie County taxpayers by doing for them at the state level what you are doing for them at the county level.”

There is overlap between these chairs and the list of early supporters of Ed Cox’s successful bid for the state GOP chairmanship.

There are a few surprises in this group. For example, Bronx GOP Chairman Jay Savino is a close ally of Rudy Giuliani, who not only recently endorsed former Rep. Rick Lazio for governor, but also supported former Niagara County GOP Chairman Henry Wojtaszek against Collins backer Cox.

Isn’t it about time Craig and Golden finally endorse Lazio?

They’re going to endorse young Cuomo, just like their “hero” Giuliani did when he endorsed the elder.
      Look how far Rudy went.
No surprise,Democrats in disguise as Republicans supporting other Democrats.

Why does everything have to be about what Eaton is going to do, think, say, about it? Why can’t we have an open and honest discussion about the merits of the two candidates, or the lack thereof? Personally, I think both candidates have a compelling case and I would love to see a republican primary in the empire state. Its about time New York republicans had a sincere and open debate about what is important to us as New Yorkers and as republicans.

I am entirely in agreement with Young Republican. I know too little about these people to make a definitive comment about either.

As for what Eaton is going to do, let’s look to which is more likely to succeed, with the recent memory in our minds that the man we endorsed and gave a Wilson Pauka to for Mayor was expected to win and lost Brooklyn.

      Let’s learn our lessons.

The Bay Ridge GOP has finally lost it.

They are sending their people out to monitor this blog minute by minute. Tweet after tweet after tweet.

They have targeted the young republicans, ms. regina-potter and chairman ferraro. Now they’re calling people names, looking up their website info, going onto other sites and spreading all kinds of rumors.

I’m ashamed to be a republican in brooklyn when I see what the party leadership has condoned. They are using nixonian tactics to try to take down their enemies.

I can’t in good conscience donate or support them in any of their endeavors anymore. I’m happy to support candidates individually. I’ll go to non-bay ridge gop events. But seeing all this hate unleashed by the party is just too much. I can’t reward them for their actions.

I’m still not convinced that Andrew Cuomo is running. The election is 10 months away and the primary is in less than nine months. He’s got to start campaigning sometime, no? In any case, if Cuomo does run, that would open the AG’s office which we lost to Spitzer by a half of a percent. Any big republican names interested in that seat?

Craig is a buddy of Bronx GOP Chairman Joseph J. “Jay” Savino, who actually lives in Rocland County (upstate Congers, NY).

If you “google” Jay Savino and Bronx GOP, you can find out a lot about Craig’s friend Jay Savino.

Cuomo will not run and if he does, it will be to the GOP’s advantage.

For Andy Cuomo to be the next governor, he’ll have to run through Governor Paterson – as Paterson will never just quit the job he’s been given.

In 2008, the GOP got destroyed by the Obama Tsunami. The voters who were responsible for wiping us out have already started to stay home – just look at the comparison between turnout in 2008 and in this past year’s General Election.

With Paterson being crushed by Cuomo, those same new, Tsunami voters will stay home at an even greater rate this time around – making the Chances for the GOP to take back the State Senate and possibly the Governor’s Job significantly greater…

If Cuomo does run and beats Paterson, You may end up with a lot of disenfranchised Black voters who will be looking for an alternative. In such a case Chris Collins might be the candidate you are looking for. Buffalo, the second biggest city in the state, is in Erie County and blacks comprise over 40% of its population. If urban voters see how conservative government works for them, Chris Collins being exhibit A, they might consider voting republican.

A Year End Reminder from NYCYR President Daniel Peterson

As 2009 comes to a close, the New York Young Republican Club can be proud of the wonderful achievements we’ve made this year and look forward to an even more successes in 2010.

Young professionals were out in force working on various campaigns across the five boroughs for candidates like Ashok Chandra, Dan Halloran, Peter Koo, Bob Capanao, Alex Zablocki and Joe Mendola. Though we didn’t win them all, the Republican Party picked up additional council seats and helped re-elect Michael Bloomberg to another four years.

Across this state, we won on a message of lower taxes and fiscal responsibility. We took back Nassau County and won the executive seat in Westchester, as well as many townships. With liberalism gone a-muck in Albany and DC, we have a chance to win more races next year. To do this, we will need your help.

It is time to renew your membership to the New York Young Republican Club and if you have never been one yet, now is a great time to join. We will be reappointing our committee leadership positions and would love to add some new faces to our club.
Please go to our membership page at http://www.nycyr.org/join.php

and help make 2010 a special year for being a Republican in New York State.

Have a Happy and Joyous New Year and we look forward to seeing you!
