THOMPSON BEATS BLOOMBERG IN BROOKLYN AS ALL BROOKLYN GOP CANDIDATES LOSE IN STUNNING DEFEAT; CHAIRMAN EATON MUST NOW RESIGN
There were those that doubted whether the inadequacies and failures of the Brooklyn GOP were true. There were those that stood by the party establishment and said “it can’t be that bad!”
After tonight, that all changes.
It is beyond doubt now that the Brooklyn GOP is broken and ineffective.
Atlas has crunched the numbers in Brooklyn, and it is clear from the results of the election that absolutely no Brooklyn GOP-backed candidate–not even Mayor Bloomberg!–won in Brooklyn.
Let’s go right to the numbers:
Brooklyn Borough President:
Marty Markowitz (Dem) 84.87%
Marc D’Ottavio (GOP) 13.24%
John Liu (Dem) 75.97%
Joseph Mendola (GOP) 19.30%
NYC Public Advocate:
Bill De Blasio 76.86%
Alex Zablocki 17.93%
39th City Council District:
Bradford Lander (Dem) 69.68%
Joe Nardiello (GOP) 16.65%
42nd City Council District:
Vincent Gentile (Dem) 59.73%
Bob Capano (GOP) 40.27%
46th City Council District:
Lewis Fidler (Dem) 79.23%
Gene Berardelli (GOP) 19.46%
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY:
William Thompson 53.4%
Michael Bloomberg 46.6%
(These numbers do not count the 60th Assembly District, which does not change the outcome of a Thompson victory. That means, if Brooklyn were still its own city, Bloomberg would not be mayor of it)
I have to say, Atlas warned that such failure was imminent. Now, it is crystal clear that the party establishment, “led” by failed Brooklyn GOP Chairman Craig “The Duke of Bay Ridge” Eaton, is not capable of winning any elections at all, aside from its grotesque alienation and divisive attitude toward fellow Republicans.
It should come as no suprise that the party was unable to assist its candidates–not even Bloomberg–in attaining victory.
As we reported recently, the party has suffered from a serious Shore Road syndrome (and you thought Swine Flu was bad), benefiting only those organizations and charities in the vicinity of the leadership’s local homes and districts.
Hank Rearden wrote:
The evidence is clear that the Brooklyn GOP and its Chairman, Craig “The Duke of Bay Ridge” Eaton, have benefited only organizations that are in Bay Ridge or that have a connection to The Duke or his Golden Prince, Sen. Martin Golden.
Moreover, I personally reported to you that the party leadership was not interested in holding pre-election events in any place BUT Bay Ridge.
The Bay Ridge Cabal scheduled absolutely NO EVENTS in areas other than Bay Ridge, which demonstrated that the Brooklyn GOP did not have any intention of fighting for the entirety of its other candidates.
And nevertheless, even with all their concentration in Bay Ridge, their Bay Ridge candidate for City Council, Bob Capano, lost by around twenty percentage points.
Elsewhere, disaster and failure were met.
Atlas recalls the words of 44th Assembly District candidate Yvette Velázquez Bennett, who, in a letter to the executive committee of the party, held The Duke accountable for the failures of our party, stating Eaton’s “arrogance far exceeds his wisdom, and it is tearing our party asunder.”
Such arrogance and self-centeredness by concentrating on his home district and no others!
And so he threw all of the party’s eggs in one basket, and what did the Brooklyn GOP get as a result?
Enough is enough. Brooklyn GOP leadership: Move aside. Step down. You’re time is over.
Chairman Eaton: you must resign. It is now clear you cannot run this party. Accept responsibility for your failures and step down.
Let the call for fresh leadership ring true throughout Brooklyn!
We call on all borough reformers to forsake current Brooklyn GOP leadership immediately and call for change!
You have NOTHING to fear! The Brooklyn GOP is POWERLESS and DEAD!
Do everything you can with all deliberate speed.
Form new organizations and join other organizations with a reformist message!
Form blogs of your own, whether they be Brooklyn-wide or local in scope. Get your message out there!
Challenge the party establishment!
If the party has not come to your neighborhood, reach out and create your own Republican clubs and bases to detract from the party establishment!
They cannot succeed. YOU CAN. Reject failure and embrace the future of this party.
It belongs to you.
Now take it back.
