Bob Capano Enlists Anti-Zablocki Democrat Kraus to Get Out The Vote

November 2, 2009

An orgy of evidence now conclusively demonstrates that the Brooklyn GOP has absolutely no shame and no intent to change their dirty tricks.

A fellow Shrugger recently informed Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn that Bob Capano has enlisted controversial Democrat and political consultant Dr. Jeffrey Kraus to assist him in his campaign activities, and it is unclear if Kraus has been involved from the beginning.

This all comes just days after the party released email and newspaper endorsements for all candidates except citywide Public Advocate Candidate Alex Zablocki.

In an earlier piece, I expressed my dismay at the cannibalism of GOP political consultants, and this blog has frequently called on the party to investigate and subsequently terminate any relationships with “consultants” who use divisive and harmful tactics.

This is what Atlas informed you of in early September:

The Daily News has reported that Dr. Jeffrey Kraus, Chair of the NYC Voter Assistance Commission and long-time courtier of The Golden Prince, State Senator Marty Golden, publicly slandered Republican candidate for Public Advocate Alex Zablocki on YouTube.

Apparently, Jeff Kraus, a Professor at Wagner College in Staten Island, commented on Mr. Zablocki’s online voter guide video page that Mr. Zablocki was “a jerk.” Perhaps this is not so unexpected given Mr. Kraus is a Democrat.

Within hours of the article’s release, Mr. Zablocki’s video featured a new comment by a mysterious BigEShellback86: “What a f****** JERK !” (expletive deleted).

Hmm…

Regardless of his political affiliation, the “jerk” comment is important to Brooklyn Republicans given the very interesting GOP connections Dr. Kraus has had over the years.

“Friends of Martin Golden” has given Dr. Kraus over $57,000 over the years The Golden Prince has been a State Senator, and over $33,500 while The Golden Prince was a mere squire City Councilman. Embattled 39th City Council District GOP candidate George Smith is also indebted to Dr. Kraus for “outstanding liabilities.” Dr. Kraus has even waved his wand for Democratic City Councilman Simcha Felder for over $18,000 in 2005, the year Mr. Felder ran unopposed and received the Republican line.

Fascinating.

This all begs the question: why would our party be involved with someone like Kraus? His actions are indicative of the dizzying conflicts of interest and inappropriate conduct on the part of GOP consultants in Brooklyn.

***

We’ve already had Merlin of Malice Gerry O’Brien allegedly running amok this past summer, attacking fellow Republicans, stealing election materials and making threats. Combined with Kraus, the level of suspicious activity had reached a fever pitch.

This blog sent the following letter to the party and to failed Brooklyn GOP Chairman Craig “The Duke of Bay Ridge” Eaton regarding this matter:

Dear Chairman Eaton,

As a reader of our blog, we here at Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn felt the need to write to you on behalf of your concerned constituents regarding the course of conduct that some of the political consultants that have been paid by the Kings County Republican Party have been demonstrating.

Most recently, on the Urban Elephants blog, a letter from Brooklyn Young Republican Club President Jonathan Judge to the party’s Executive Committee was leaked disclosing a harassment complaint and allegations on the part of Mr. Judge that he was physically harassed and threatened by political consultant Gerry O’Brien, a sometimes-Democratic consultant with clear conflicts of interests, despite the fact that the county party has provided him thousands of dollars.

Also, last week, Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn exposed the party’s financing of another consultant that has received thousands from Republicans and serves as Chair of the NYC Voter Assistance Commission, Dr. Jeffrey Kraus, who publicly insulted the Republican Party’s candidate for Public Advocate Alex Zablocki.

We write to offer you an opportunity as the current party Chairman to examine these and other corruptions that have been plaguing your county party and that are gaining attention among your fellow constituents and elsewhere. This kind of conduct is reprehensible and needs to be extricated from our party or else the Republican Party as we know it will finally cease to exist in Brooklyn.

We invite you to send us your findings so we may post them and begin to shed some light on this issue. Your voice has been missing from this discussion, and it should be heard.

Regards,

Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn

Now, we find ourselves in a very interesting situation–frankly, a sad one.

The party has given its constructive approval of the conduct of BOTH O’Brien and Kraus in recent days by incorporating them into their campaign activities. First, sometimes GOP ghoul O’Brien’s fingerprints were on an email sent by the party promoting a rally for candidates this weekend, as we reported to you on Halloween. Now, Democrat and acolyte of Marty Golden (aka The Golden Prince) Kraus is assisting Bob Capano in his race.

This all comes out after the party’s “Brooklyn GOP cemetery” ads were unveiled featuring the “un-endorsement” of Mr. Zablocki.

Capano’s campaign manager recently commented on this blog about the party’s failure to include Zablocki (without opining on the involvement of Dr. Kraus, of which he himself must be privy):

I assume it was an error. The County and its District Leaders have endorsed and supported ALL Republican candidates. Ask Alex himself if that is not true.

Unfortunately, this answer misses the point. Whether Zablocki was previously endorsed matters not when the party issues both newspaper and email endorsement notices that fail to indicate a citywide office-seeker. That is either a colossal error or a very deliberate act.

Moreover, the involvement of Dr. Kraus is highly suspicious given his relationship to The Golden Prince and his deliberate attack of Republican (unsurprising from a Democrat, but again, why keep this person around?) Zablocki in the past, who is now conveniently “unendorsed” in the party’s ads.

And, of course, the Hand of Bloomberg, The King of New York, must be considered. An emailer has told us Bob Capano is holding his pre-election activities at Bloomberg’s headquarters, and the event this past weekend took place at Bloomberg HQ in Bay Ridge.

All in all, the party has demonstrated disgraceful conduct in the course of the past few months and has clearly not learned at all from its mistakes. That fact is beyond doubt now.

How much longer can we tolerate these tactics?

How much longer can a party survive with failed leadership?

How much longer can we wait before reform can cleanse the stigma of this party?

Here’s the answer to all of these questions: Brooklyn GOP, your time is up.

I love how you assholes send an official letter complaining to an elected political leader and sign it with fake names.

Next time add Daffy Duck and Roger Rabbit’s signatures. Then you might get a response.

The President of the United States of America could send a letter to the illustrious chairman of the Brooklyn GOP, and he still wouldn’t respond.

Numerous people have let their voices be heard, and the party hears none of them.

Enough is enough. Tomorrow, they establish how well they’ve failed us.

Any false credibility they have claimed ends tomorrow.

Then, we return this borough party to what it should be.

Out with these obtuse pieces of flotsam.

People are so aggravated with this party leadership, except those receiving patronage.

      This all must end.

The party and Bob Capano do not have a snowball’s chance in hell.

After tomorrow, any remaining respect for the Brooklyn GOP leadership evaporates. I entirely agree with Mr. Atlas Shrugger.

Some foolish person named “Daniel Pedersen” made a comment on the Urban Elephants blog which I would like to address.

This foolish individual stated of Atlas readers:

“You’re supposed to make assumptions without support and spread the word.

“Atlasshrugs apparently shrugs real journalistic skill of verifying information it prints and prints unsubstantiated ifnormation anyway.

“It’s nice that folks in Brooklyn want to improve the Brooklyn GOP. But if they can’t simply make a phone call and inquire about something, then how credible do they wish to be?”

Besides not being able to spell, Mr. Pedersen’s comments lack an understanding of the purpose of Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn. I don’t believe, from what I’ve read on this blog thus far, that it was ever intended to be the CNN of Brooklyn GOP politics.

I don’t think these writers are pretending to be be journalists, and have never called themselves such. Whereas Urban Elephants seems to WANT to be the CNN of NYC politics, Atlas is more so interested in the insider’s approach to politics, providing its readers with numerous stories that, frankly, Urban Elephants has missed.

I read Atlas daily because I am tired of the establishment, and they keep me informed of just what kind of tactics the Brooklyn GOP is using on a daily basis. The writers here are fun to read, get to the point, identify gossip as such, and bring party politics to the average disappointed GOPer in Brooklyn.

Mr. Pedersen does not appreciate this reality. He is content to bash a blog that has clearly stated what its intentions were from the start and has been straight with us readers all along.

Thank you, Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn.

Gentile has vote for tax hike after tax hike, never held a real job outside of political office, never held a town hall meeting, and is politics as usual all his money comes from special interests. If you want change, and a leader for the working class, choice is clear vote for Bob Capano regardless of name calling, and who supports who.

Daniel Peterson is Club President of the New York Young Republican Club, located at http://www.nycyr.org/index.php

Mr. Peterson is also Managing Editor of UE. And a frequent UE blogger and commentator.

    http://www.urbanelephants.com/index.php/about-us.html

Dan is not a bad chap at all. Although, he can be opinionated and cynical. I’ve spared with him on UE a number of times. He is entitles to his points of view, even if we at Atlas sometimes disagree with his outlook on things.

Dan has not always agreed to all things Craig Eaton has promoted or advocated. Dan has sometimes been critical of Craig Eaton. If Dan was a Brooklyn GOPer and resident, he probably would be much more critical to things “Eaton-esque,” so to speak.

You like Gentile yet you claim to run a Republican blog? Gentile is the farthest thing from a Republican. He just voted for the sales tax increase earlier this year, and has failed to help his community, he’s useless, he’s for the clinic access bill, do you know what that is? He claims to support cutting property taxes, yet he voted for two sales tax increases since he was elected, what has he done for his community? I can distinguish leadership when I see it. Bob Capano can do far better than Gentile, should I bring up the past regarding him?
