Arnaldo Ferraro Emphasizes Experience and Reform in Race for Brooklyn GOP Chairman
Dr. Arnaldo Ferraro made an impressive move yesterday evening by announcing his candidacy for Brooklyn GOP Chairman, sending shockwaves throughout the New York City GOP and elating reformist Republicans boroughwide looking for a strong candidate. Doing so, he demonstrated two things: how many Brooklyn GOPers are looking for a serious change in leadership and that he himself is still a political powerhouse after many years of public service.
It’s true that some had come to see the Kings County Republican Party as a political rock that could not be moved. With figures such as State Senator Marty Golden and former Congressman Vito Fossella in power, things seemed to be on the up. Yet, since current Chairman Craig Eaton, The Duke of Bay Ridge, has taken power, numerous races have been lost, mismanagement has become commonplace, political consultants have run amok, and a new feeling of disconnect between the party executive and their “foot soldiers” has arisen. Dr. Ferraro emphasized this in his statement yesterday:
“Now, I need your help and support in order to rescue our beleaguered Party and restore it to its glory days when the duly elected District Leaders had an impact in setting its goals and policy and were recognized as the true pillars and champions of the Republican Party.”
A former Assemblyman, Dr. Ferraro founded the Fiorello LaGuardia Regular Republican Organization in 1993. Now, with the party at one of its lowest points, Dr. Ferraro seeks to be the man to restore it to greatness. In his statement, he called out the current leadership and highlighted the negative sentiments of numerous fellow GOPers:
“I can safely tell you that this is the worst our Party has ever been. Despite this, current Chairman Craig Eaton continues to push people like me, and so many of you, out of the Brooklyn Republican Party! And we continue to lose….”
The fact is, now with a more experienced candidate for Chairman running for office, the party establishment is bracing itself for the huge power of the Fiorello LaGuardia Club (after all, John McCain did win the Club’s 49th Assembly District last year) and the newly forged unity of reformists seeking to expel The Duke from the realm. Both have the potential to override what dwindling power the current establishment now has.
As such, this promises to be a huge race.
So what’s next for us?
After John Galt’s evaluation of Brooklyn GOP Chairman candidate Ferraro, I will offer some commentary on the race, what we’re hearing here at Atlas, and what the chances are that Dr. Ferraro will be victorious this week. So, be sure to COME BACK TODAY TO READ MORE ON ATLAS SHRUGS IN BROOKLYN!
